How much does the middle bit of ear piercing hurt ! I'm not sure what the part of the ear is called ! ?

I think its called the tragus maybe spelt differently.I think its not too sore from what i have been told but should be done by needle and not gun as it is cartilage,

Hi there,

Gillian is right, it is called a tragus & should be pierced with a needle. It doesn't hurt that much to have done. There's a poping sound when it's pierced because it's cartilage, But most piercings are done so quickly that you really don't have time to think about it. The part that can be painful is how you look after it while it's healing. It will get sore if you don't clean it properly & if you fall asleep pressed against it. Make sure you get it done by a professional that has good quality jewelry (surgical steel) & gives you aftercare advice.

Hope this helps :)

Just to add that over here the jewelry should be Surgical grade titanium for any body piercing. It's the mark of a good piercing studio

I think I might have it done ! There is a really good place quite near to me ! Just another question does anyone know if you can have just a little stud straight after peircing or does it have to be a ring or bar for swelling ???

From memory my friend had a small bar In hers when she first got it pierced...it looked just like a stud cos it was so dainty

Hi, I have had this done before. It was pierced with a needle and yes you can have just a bar (I think they recommend this rather than a ring at first)
Sorry but I wouldn't say that it DIDN'T hurt but wasn't awful, only lasted a couple of seconds and the stinging sensation was only for about 10 mins after.
Both my friend and I have had to take ours out now, they both went very septic, sore and swollen. Both of us took very good care of them, cleaning with salt water or TCP.
I also found that I couldn't sleep on the side that I had pieced
Hope this hasn't put you off, just being honest. However I know ppl it's been fine for :green: xxx

I've been contemplating that piercing but not until the rim piercing I had done a couple months ago is completely fine. I think people dont allow enough time for their piercings to heal. I had naively thought my rim piercing would heal very quickly so was quite taken aback to discover that no matter how good care I take of it, 2 months later it can go from issue free to a bit sore again because I slept on it with the ring pressed a bit squint. A bit of research later and seeing my friend who owns the piercing studio and I now know that can take several months.

Had I known I would have had it done on the other ear as I tend to sleep on the side its been done on. I'm glad I didn't have it done while I lived in Norway where I would have been hauling a woolly hat on and off around now and I'm glad I dont favour tops with tight necklines which would have caught it every time I forgot! I guess what I am saying is that before embarking on a piercing with a longer heal time frame I'm going to take into account a few more factors next time (I'd like a second piercing next to my current one)

I think the pain will vary from person to person as with most things. When I had my tongue done it was awful (despite a usually great pain thresh hold) yet I have friends who had theirs with no issue. My rim piercing was fine yet my brother almost passed out when he had his done (seeing the needle didn't help)

Hi ya
I had mine done about 3 years ago now and it's a small bar and I have a pink stud on in, it's quiet small and not many people notice it. It did hurt and was over so quick. It's pieced witha needle and can't be frozen. Since having it done I have no problem with it I forget it's there and would deffo have it done again. I went somewhere near me that's really good that's I have a number of pieces with, the aftercare was great.
Go for it, it's really not as bad as you think!!

I have many piercing's and tattoos but I must say for me personally I found this one quite painful and the longest to heal. However, I have found that most people have very different experiences, so I would never let anothers put me off! :)

Had it done ! painLESS ! and I really mean that !

mine took quite a while to heal, but now i wear a tiny nose stud in it and it looks fabulous... go for it!!

I got mine done years ago!!! Every person is different in their pain threshold! I found it sore whereas a friend of mine had hers done and didnt find it painful at all!!!! When I had it done it was £35 not sure what it costs now. Some have bars I had a ring in mine until 2 years ago and changed it to a bar. I dont notice it all and can sleep on it no bother :)

I've got a wide range of ear and other piercings. when you say middle ear, do you mean the knobbly bit where your ear joins to the side of your head? If so that is the tragus, and different people have different experiences pain-wise, some find it painful, some dont. Get it done at a proper piercing/tattoo studio, they will do it with a needle, piercing guns can shatter cartiledge and it causes problems.

If the tragus isnt what you mean, do you literally mean in the middle of your ear? This is a conch piercing (google it for pictures to see if its what you mean), same as above applies, its a cartilede piercing.

With either one, it will take longer to heal than a normal piercing, they need lots of looking after and after care, but in my opinion they are worth it, as both look really good

I had this done years ago, it was slightly painful but not unbearable, as alot of people have said they do require alot of aftercare on your part. Mine got infected and swelled (I was following the proper care instructions) and I ended up removing it, having said that alot of the piercings I had in my mid teens did get infected as I am prone to infection (didn't know that then lol) and they were all eventually removed (except my tongue piercing which never did get infected and was fine ?!?!?!).

So basically what I am trying to say is that everyone is different. I wouldn't worry about it being painful it will be worth it in the end

Hi, i had this done a while ago, personally i found this painful. It was pierced with a normal piercing gun, didn't hurt immediately but when i stood up i felt dizzy. Then it got sore a couple of days later and i think it was sore for about 6 months (was not infected though...went back to the shop to get it checked). But at the time i did read something about this part of your ear been connected to your jaw so it moves when you talk......if this is true i talk alot and could be why it was so sore!!lol but everyone is different i have had other piercings and tattoos and not had any pain at all!! And i love this piercing! so was worth it. plus dont think this piercing should have been done with a gun!?!??

Looking at getting another piercing done !!! again I'm not sure what its called but its in your cleavage ! Anyone had this done any advice ? painfull ???
