Hey

Hope some one can help me...:grr:
Just started my own Spray Tanning Business using Sienna X brand, When I did my training the tutor advised me I could easily make over £1000 a month if not more..So I did the 1 day course bought the equipment I was really excited..
But not sure maybe its the area I live in Market Deeping/ Peterborough but I'm finding it so hard to build up my business. Can any one please me any advise on what I'm doing wrong, I've advised local paper also gone into local hairdressers, fashion shop health clubs...

Hiya

I have only been spray tanning since march and I was doing the same as you leaflet drops in hair and nail shops got a couple of customers not many but I placed an ad on netmums and got 6 new customers from it who have reccomended me to friends and it just went from their with me. Also I sprayed two of the hairdessers in my nearest salon for free and that got me some new customers its all word of mouth and takes time to build up. I also did an offer new customer first tan £15 I normally charge £20 I am still training on my beauty therapy course so I dont want to invest in a website till I finish that but maybe you could give that a go.

I dont think your doing anythng wrong but it takes time to build a business. I think you were not told the whole truth by your trainer as prha you can earn that kind of money but you need to be consistantly busy and for that you will need regular customers, which wont happen over night.
Keep patient and carry on doing what your doing and eventualy your business will get busier. There are lots of threads here to give you tips and marketing ideas so take a look at them and also you may find some of Calla's blogs and threads re. marketing helpful.
Also, spray tanning for many people seems to be seasonal and has peaks and lower points through the year so you may find business slows at times. I'm still fairly new to spray tanning so my answers not all based on my own experience but advice i've read from other geeks too. I have found my business has done well just though word of mouth and one free ad i placed on gumtree.

These companies infuriate me giving people false advise to get a sale. Yes you can make over a £1000 a month some tan techs I know earn £2500+ a month but it takes a very long time to get established.

You should realistically expect to earn about £60 a week when you first start, slowing buiding this up over the year where you get to a comfortable amount that you can live off.

When you did your training they should give you comprehensive marketing training to get clients as this is the most important part of your business.

I heard of one company last week tell a girl that she will easn £500 a week and everyone he sells equipment too is on that kind of money. When I told her the reality ~ which is that there is a hell of a lot of competition she was grateful as she was about to give up her full time job!

You need to get all your friends and family to hold parties for you and invite their friends and work collegues you don't know. Then at the parties, get these people to hold parties for you too.

It takes a lot of hard work and patience to build your business up so don't get disheartened. Peterborough is not a 'bad' area its just you need to learn how to target your market more towards the people that matter. Hope this does not come over wrong ~ but target your eastern european market thats near you as they are huge fans of tanning.

I started spray tanning about 2 months ago, and i did 5 people free, i picked clients and friends that would show it off and do lots of socialising, then i did a few for a tenner, to build up my confidence but also to choose me as im the cheapest then once they had the tan they would apreciate what a great solution im using and tell their friends.

Im now charge £15 and was going to put it up to £20 but am a bit reluctant as im still one of the cheapest in my town, just bear with it, it takes a bit of time to build up a client base, i find advertising in the local press a waste of time, id rather spend the money on a bottle of solution and spray for free, sienna is a fantastic solution and your clients will love it.

altho your trainer shouldnt of made out you will be earning £1000 a month so soon,

good luck and happy spraying lol

Thanks Guys

Hi Lara,
I had a look at your website and love the colours and layout - very, very nice.

However, right from the start I could see some spelling and grammatical errors and over your pages there are dozens of errors. I'm not pretending to be an expert, but I strongly suggest you go through your text with a fine tooth comb, correcting every single error as this could put off many, many webiste visitors from even clicking-through onto another page from your home page. If you don't feel confident in making these corrections yourself, please get someone else to do it with or for you.

xx

I no I better get someone to check it for me .... I'm crap and spelling

It does take time to get any business off the ground..those that are finally successful are the ones who really get out there and sell themselves and are willing to go through the various pain barriers of "will my business be successful, have I made the right decision" etc etc

The key is to gain the support of those around you, your family friends etc as it is those people who will give you both moral and physical support.

Some good suggestions already but the key is to believe in yourself..graft like a beast possessed and ,with a bit of luck thrown in you will find that in time your business will start to grow

I didnt (at a quick glance) notice any spelling mistakes other then the OPA thing, however there are a few grammer mistakes- the odd missing comma, the word 'is' instead of 'are' and also sentances starting with 'But'. Perhaps you may know somebody who is very good with grammer and things to take a look? I would offer but as much as i can often spot a mistake i dont think i'm good enough to correct them as i make enough of the same mistakes myself! Hope this helps!
