Hi I just wanted to ask you mobile geeks some questions:)

1) Who is your target market/majority client base i.e high earners, elderly etc.
2) On average what percentage do you work of your capacity?
3) What is your unique selling point?

Thanks in advance:Love:

Hi,
1) The area I live in is mainly low earners and youngsters so it would have been tempting to target these people. However, virtually every salon and NSS in town targets this group so I decided to target the more discerning, 30-50+ age range whose needs aren't really being addressed. This seems to have worked quite well as not only do I get many clients from my target group but I am also starting to get younger/lower earners as they realise that the 'cheap n nasty' treatments are a false economy :).
2)I would say that at the moment I am working to about 65-70% of my capacity but this should rise with the imminent warmer weather, holidays and sandals etc.
3)My unique selling point is quality i.e no orange spray tans, stripper nails or cheap n nasty hair extensions:lol:. Also I think that the fact I am mobile is a USP in itself as there are few mobile technicians in the area and I can accommodate clients who need treatments of an evening due to work commitments.

Thanks for this great thread, it should be very helpful to newbies who are planning to go mobile.

Thanks for the reply. Can I also ask how long you have been established for?

Its great that starting off with this target group has attracted other one's. I agree about being a quality orientated mobile therapist can be a unique selling point itself. There is nothing professional like that in my area. People use cheap products, aren't that good IMO and charge really cheap prices which will attract cheap skates which are difficult to turn into loyal customers. It would be great to hear from other mobile therapists:)

Hmmm cheap prices... I've just seen another therapist offering Shellac for £13!!! That's seriously cheap and a little bit annoying!

I'm also mobile but only very recently so can't really comment too much. From what I'm seeing the younger girls only want quick fix, one off treatments but ladies who are slightly older are becoming repeat clients.

That makes me think that she is not confident in her ability, each to their own though, she would need to do a high volume of clients to reap any benefits.

I feel a lot of mobile therapist don't seem to cater for wealthier/older clients which is a shame really because anti ageing products drives the skincare industry and they usually have a higher disposable income which means they are likely to spend more on your treatments.

We are in a recession though so I can understand people aiming for affordable luxury but you usually get what you pay for:) Would be great to hear from people offering cheap services to offer their opinion on it:Love:

I am concerned on what to charge for my hollwood nails and toes when i offer them , as with my tans being £20 i dont know what to charge but as you say you dont want to under sell yourself , we need to be confidant that our service is worth what we charge. I think is just the hardest part of starting out the price competition wars between cheap and affordable luxary

Abdiva what would your answers to the OP questions be? It's hard to price because if you are high priced on some things then cheap in others it could give out mixed messages.

yes i think you right on the mixed messages point.
Well when i first started i wanted to Target Everyone i wanted everyone to be a potential client no matter age , sex, etc. However i am finding that in business you have to find your feet first and for most. So my primary target market first is Women......2nd Men.
I get a mixed client base, unemployed, singel mothers, under 16s, but also working class, not had any (high earners) i relly want to target them all. Mainly i want to keep them with in my locational reach dont want to be going ,miles out my way for one client every now and again. keeping round about is good for mord of mouth so im told.
I also like to target groups of people i believe would use a service like mine in bulk eg lap dance clubs, burlesqe clubs, dance academys , and gyms , restuarnts no custom from them yet but ive put my name to them so you never know.

im not quite sure what you mean by question 2 hun

and im not sure i have a found my unique selling point as of yet, im kinda tryin anything and everything to get bookings xxx

Q2. If you have set your hours to 20 hours a week and you are offering one hour treatments. Your capacity of treatments would be 20. Obviously when mobile you will need to put travel and set up time into consideration.

So basically how busy are you and how many treatments do you do per week?

keeping round about is good for mord of mouth so im told.

Everybody has their own marketing strategies niche marketing has been proven more effective.

My set hours / availability is 35hrs. I spend almost 90% of that marketing , leafleting etc etc .........so majority of my work is unpaid at the mo.

I set a hour per treatment this includes my travel time , so if i was to work at my full capacity in an ideal world i would be working 6- 8 hours per day 5-6 days a week to fill my capacity.

How ever at the mo im only gettin 3 tans per week avarage , this week non, so far.
im not very busy at all just now .........but available to be VERY BUSY.

brilliant thread!
im currently on mat leave at the moment but i retrained in nails and am still practicing the treatments im still not 100% confident in, then when im dur to return to my part time job i shall work around that, also training in lash extensions monday week so hoping the nails and kids nail art parties etc will keep me ticking over until i can earn some decent money from the lashes - its so hard to work out a business plan and predict how busy you will be, i used to specialise in bridal make up and had a booking practically every saturday, sometimes firday every week from april to september - i guess that was pretty easy to work out with most weddings being on a saturday, lol - but now, i honestly dont know what i could potentially be earning when i re-launch after i come of mat leave!

my target market is 18-30+ for minx and rockstars for the younger girls, and older trendy mums, lol
30+ for shellac, dashing diva, spa services for the older professional women
also planning to offer kids/tween nail/pamper parties - so age 9-15 yrs for parties, bff packages and individual minx appts - sleepovers are really really big at my daughters school, and of course the 101 photos taken at them go up on face book the next day, my daughter gets great response afters her as i usually mini minx their toes, glitters tats, bit of makeup etc . brilliant advertising so i plan to off bff packages, where go in and do the nails for sleepovers for 2+ girls

my selling point will be mainly the fact i am mobile and can do late appts, lots and lots of bricks and mortar beauty salons but only one other mobile that i know of, the fact i use the latest industry leading products - cnd, minx, flirties etc and specialise in 3 main areas natural nails, eyelash extensions and eventually waxing (inc intimate and bsc which i might market seperately)
also offer discounts for double appts and group bookings, and various other incentives and little extras - free mini solar oil at first appt etc x
