What is the most unusual request of a treatment that you have ever had?
I had just finished a client when this gentleman walked in, looking a bit worse for wear(dutch courage maybe). My client left and this gentleman proceeded to ask me if I did make-up. I said yes and asked who he was booking for, he then replied "well you will probably laugh at this, but me"
Well in all my years in beauty I have never been asked to do a male makeup. Now this guy was no spring chicken and he was very serious. So I asked him for what reason he wanted makeup. It was definately not wedding makeup. I then realised that he wanted stage makeup applied for up dressing as a woman, which I told him that it was way out of my professional capabilities. I just didnt know what to say.!!!!!
I was wondering if any one else had an unusual story to tell.
God love our job. You cant beat it x

If you advertise as doing make-up then i don't see what the problem is!

a man asked for a massage just to his groin and buttocks.

I would have done it. I cant see it being any different as a females make-up as long as you told him to get rid of the stubble, to stop the foundation clogging up.
Not getting at you babe but it must have took a lot of courage for him to come into you only for you to turn him away.
It's hard though when you are put on the spot, not knowing what to say!! xxx

I have done loads of mens make up , but it was for the stage back then,
they make fantastic models and they actually take lots of advice that you give them on what would suit them ect..

I think some men look drop dead gorgeouse in full make up
I like to look at men in drag too on the television in all thier full make up I think they look great

I also like to look at men that still want to look like men but wear lots of make up and womens outfits , a friend of mine does this all the time
he wears wigs too, and he is such a lovely person ,
plus I like it that they dont want to diguise themselves as a woman
they just want to wear what they fancy wearing ,

It takes all kinds of people to make a world x

Oh sorry I nearly forgot one of my most unusual requests was to shave off the front of a ladies hairline lol x
and a client wanted a couple of long candy kiss pink extensions lol x but not on her head lol x

I couldnt fit him in anyway, and It wouldnt have bothered me doing his makeup, Not sure whether my make up would suffice for what he wanted.
I like a challenge but isnt it a little different to applying mens makeup than womens. There must a certain technique? Heavier foundation?
Have you ever applied make up to a male? Advice welcome xx

I would have done his makeup as it would have been great experience, but I could not fit him in. I have never applied makeup to a man before so it would have been a first for me. I dont know if you need different foundation (heavier maybe). I didnt make him feel uncomfortable when he came in, I just explained to him that I had never applied makeup to a male before, I know he just wanted advice on makeup application.
Any advice on this would be appreciated, if any one has ever applied makeup to a man? xx

Yes I have and do, I have a LGBT salon and do a lot of Drag Queen and KING make up, I am just started to advertise services specific to T girls.

I have to say tho not getting at you chuck but I wouldnt have asked why he wanted make up, I would have asked what kind of look did he want, asking why he wanted make up seems a little un pc to me, and also irrelevant. What you needed to know was what look he wanted, what styles inprired him, its all in the consultation and/or brief. Asking the right questions gets you the right answers so to speak.

I have a T girl to make over soon, for a big t girl night, she has been very specific about the looks she doesnt like which is cool gives me something to work on, but for bigger nights such as this one I plan much more.

I had to do a make-up competition at college. So me being me, not liking to be the same as everyone else, decided to bring in my model who was my hairdresser. He's gay so he really didn't mind and was up for a bit of a laugh.
I applied his make up just like I would do to a female really. He brought a wig along and everything. It was so funny. He looked really good and I won it
I think it depends on what look they are wanting to go for as to what foundation you use etc and also if the stubble on their face has a shaddow.
I think you did the right thing if you wasn't sure and it's hard to get male clients to practice make-up on for you to be confident! If it ever happens to you again, which isnt very likely, then why not explain that you have never done a male's make-up and provide it for cost price just for the practice  xxx

I guess transgender make-up probably does need slightly different techniques to women's make-up; with some transgender clients you will find the beard cover to be an issue (more likely with cross-dressers as opposed to transsexuals who are more likely to have had hormone treatment and electrolysis). For that, you'll need more of a "heavy duty" foundation than you would probably normally use. I've found Mehron Celebre to be pretty good as a foundation for trans make-up; I think Kryolan do a similar product too.

Catering for transgender clients could be a very profitable side-line to your business though; as it's more of a niche area, then you're more likely to find that clients stay loyal to you, especially as there might be an initial "embarrassment factor", particularly for some of the more closeted cross-dressers on the initial consultation, but they will feel a lot more comfortable coming to see you for subsequent appointments once they know you.
