Firstly, I must say how addictive I’m finding this place. I’m working my way through the Essential Nails “Acrylic Nails Course” and think I’m probably learning as much from peeking at what you all have to say as I am from reading my books and spending most of the day with my nail trainer hand (she doesn’t say much).
I’m working hard, taking it seriously and practice for 4 or so hours a day – It’s not an easy skill to master so I’ll have loads of questions for you all and any advice you can offer will be welcomed and I’ll be grateful… Thanks in advance.
My first questions is… … Obviously, at some point I’m going to have to get some practice on real people but living 200 miles from my home town with no family close by, how do I find willing guinea pigs?? I’m planning on asking a couple of my neighbours (when I’m a bit more confident at what I’m doing) but does anyone have any other suggestions??

Thank you for the welcome and for the excellent tip. I just had a look at Salon Guinea Pig and it's a brilliant idea... I'm sure I'll be able to find some patient Piggies when the time's right. Thanks - I'm starting to feel excited again :)

Welcome to the Board. There is lots to look at here, so be sure and browse around. Sometimes I spend waaaaaaaay too much time on here........

Thanks for the welcome uniq12u xx

You're right, it's very easy to spend a LONG time browsing here - but, it's all really useful stuff, especially for someone like me who is new to the field. There's a lot to be learned from people who are actually doing the job that I would never find in a textbook.

Hi and welcome - you will find the site priceless - I have done the Essentials gel course and am now doing the acrylics course - I have learnt soo much from this site it is brilliant.

Have you got a local college near you where maybe you could find some willing models for practice - as much as the trainer hand is great I found it very different working on 'real' hands - think i got used to being able to put the hand into what position was comfortable for me to work on rather than the way the client wants to hold or have their hands.

Good luck with the course and enjoy picking up great tips and advice from the site too

Hi there, glad you are enjoying nails, have you thought about putting an add on gumtree, just explaining that you are training and need models? you can advertise just in your area and so not much traveling to do?? hth xx

Another fabulous suggestion, thank you.

I like the idea of willing guinea pigs... I think I'd be more confident of them not expecting a work of genius on my first attempt - I imagine them being slightly more tolerant than a friend or neighbour who's only said "Yes" because they don't know how to say "No".

Thanks again

yea, deffinately, if they are aware you are training and want the practice, and they are calling you, it's not the same as asking you friends etc to be guinea pigs lol, hope you get some live ones lol, it's so different on an actual person to a pretend hand, finger etc, and you get so many nail shapes, it's good to practice on all different nails, if you had been near me, you could have had a go on me, but it would be a bit of a journey from fife to yorkshire lol, let us know how you get on.....and good luck!! xx
