My morale needs boosting

Hi all,
I have been keen to add spray tanning to my mobile hairdressing buiness for ages now add have just plucked up the courage and the money to get the training and buy the equipment. I was so excited to get started,(it was like christmas) Ive been spraying family members for practise but as soon as my sister had her Tan she went away and booked herself on a course and told me that she would be doing it in the back of her small clothes shop. I just feel so gutted that she would do this as we live in quite a small town, needless to say quite a small community.
I have been keeping myself tanned and looking good as an advertisment for me but every time I go out sombody always says"oh you look lovely and brown,is that one of *****'s Tans?
My car should be written up by Tuesday which will help me but I just feel the excitment wearing off and that other people will think I'm coppying her.Thats how it feels anyway.
She's in a shop and I'm mobile so I know that I have to work twice as hard, she already gaining clients while I'm still advertising, Has anyone got any idea's to boost my morale again?:sad:
I love the feeling of making other people feel good and confident about themselves so I definatly wont give up, Just need some ideas get the x factor

Has she invested in some good extraction,
if not you will be able to have the last laugh,
it takes quite a few months for the over-spray to build up on things but god help the clothes in her shop if she no extraction,
they will all very soon start to look dirty lol :lol::lol::lol:

(is she going to lock the door of her shop while she sprays or is she going to let the customers see to themselves while she is out of the room)

Don't worry too much hun, clients that want a mobile therapist are the clients that wouldn't dream of having anything done in a shop and vice versa,
and you can advertise spray tan parties where you can do lots of tans in one go, and make lots of money in one go,

Not sure what extraction she has cause I cant bring myself to go in there to face her, Ive thought about telling her how upset she has made me but I dont think it would make any difference.(she did it in the first place without thinking how it my make me feel).
Spray tan parties are a great idea just need somone to have the first one then it should take off from there.
Cant wait for all her clothes to get dirty though:lol:.

With spray tan parties you tell the host she can have her tan for free if she gets over 6 guests for example (you set your own numbers) then at the end of the night you let them all know that hosts tan is free and ask would anyone else like to host a party in order to get their next tan for free,
you will end with most of them booking and will be busy for a few weeks from 1 party.
Advertise in church halls, post office windows, any shop windows,
leave business cards in every public toilet you visit,
hand leaflets out at the school gates,
your business will soon take off hun :hug:

Hi I totally agree with lou, you will get a different clientele being Mobile, advertise on netmums.com, you can put a free add on there notice board, you just log into your area, mums find it really hard to make appointments in Salons having little ones to deal with, I do loads of evening appointments, which are better for them too as they dont have all day in the guide colour. You will be fine, just aim your business at those that would need a mobile tech!!

Awww thats a shame.
I know that i would rather get tanned in the comfort of my own home than going into a shop where there may be plenty of people to get it done.

I know what you mean with this. I am in full time employment and out of courtesy told my boss what I was doing and he has now gone and set his wife up doing the same.... I was livid when I found out as he didn't even have the decency to say anything, I heard from a colleague.

I'm not worried about the competition, its the principle of the whole thing.

I have been going in to the local hairdressers and asking if they would be happy to put some on their counter area. For every five customers they refer, a member of staff gets a free tan. This has gone down quite well.

I have also asked local pubs if I could put some flyers up in the ladies toilets and the same again. A member of staff receives a free tan once I get five customers.

Others places where I've gone are nurseries, gyms, asking a couple of mums if they could pass on cards at their kids school.

What I found a great help was I got a cousin of mine (who works in a large office) to send an email with all my details to her friends/colleagues and she asked them to pass it on to their friends and so on - the email went everywhere!!....

I got LOADS of business from this... don't worry as other geeks have said those who want mobile will not be interested in travelling to get their tans done. Just have a little patience and give it some time... it is slow to take off but once it does.... you'll have the last laugh yet...:hug:

Hi there

I'm sorry your feeling abit cack at the moment but honestly I would'nt worry. I'm in the same boat as you, I live in a very small community and have just started up mobile. Someone here has just started doing spray tans in her shop and she is offering as many tans as you want a month for a ridiculous price. I was really disheartened when I heard this cause I thought lots of people would choose that option.

However I got lots of flyers and went to all the surrounding communitys plus my own and handed them into shops, hairdressers, I even asked the local asda to put loads in their canteen!

I have found that lots of people prefer getting a tan done in the comfort of their own home at a time that suits them!

Im defo getting the appointment coming in and this morning a lady phoned to book a whole wedding party next week!! majorly excited.

So just stick with it and get yourself out there!!

Great advice from you all thanks soooo much ,
I'm getting all my excitment back again now! My car writting will be ready Tuesday, got buiness cards on the way, One of my hair clients owns a pub and is going to help get loads of people interested, I've got a cuple of bookings and I'm just gonna go hell to leather and get my name out there Big Time :lol:.
