Hi guys...

A lot of people have been asking specific questions about the photographic category, so here are the rules and regs. Hopefully they'll help answer a few of your questions! Also I've posted the Novice rules and regs below to help those new to competing.

Other rules and regs will be posted out to those techs who pre-register. If you have already registered, but can't wait til your Registration pack comes, email me at [email protected] with your email address and I'll whizz them over.

Ta muchly

PHOTOGRAPHIC - Hints and Tips

Plan your photograph carefully. Consider the following:
 The theme for this competition is 20s/30s glamour. Ensure the judges can determine your picture reflects this.
 If the back of the nail can be seen this must be decorated as well.
 Research ideas.
 Decide on a theme.
 Choose a nail design and decide how you are going to portray this:
 Will the nails be the main focus?
 Does the whole picture reflect the theme?
 Look at your budget. Are you taking the picture yourself or hiring a photographer?
 Do you need the services of hair of make-up professionals?
 Do you need props to enhance the picture?
 Is your picture original or has it been seen before?
 Look at the position of the hands. Do they complement the picture? Can you see the nails and design clearly?
 If you can see thee back of the nails are these complementary to the picture?
 Are the colours in the picture in the picture complementary to one another and to the design of the photograph?

Types of themes you can choose from are:
 Hands only
 Hands and feet
 Hands and head
 Hands and body
 A nail art shot
 Hands and props

The model should have:
 Young skin and hands shoot best
 Long slender fingers if using adult
 Light to no hair on hands and arms

UV Gel Specific – Rules & Regulations

 UV lamps must be used otherwise this will be classed as liquid and powder.
 White and pink gel must be used to create a French smile line.
 White tips may NOT be used in this category.

Fibreglass Specific – Rules & Regulations

 White tips cannot be used in this category.
 Fibreglass must cover at least 2/3 of the nail.
 Resins applied with a brush or nozzle are acceptable.
 Contestants must not use silk.

Liquid and Powder Specific – Rules & Regulations

 Pink and white powder must be used to create a French smile line.
 No UV Gel products can be used as top coats or finishers.
 Nails must be buffed with files and buffers to a high gloss shine.
 White tips may NOT be used in this category.

NOVICE - Hints & Tips

 Look for a good shape tip with a high apex and good C Curve.
 Achieve a deeper C curve by pinching during curing.
 Choose a good nail model with long, healthy, pink nail beds and good cuticles and skin who looks after their nails.
 Manicure your model a week before the competition. Teach them how to use oil every night before the competition and then manicure them the day before to ensure their cuticles are in tip top condition.
 Make sure you have enough products to hand, including some soak off / remover and a bowl just in case you want to start again.
 Make sure you have enough files and buffers – you may want a new buffer for every finger of the unpainted hand.
 If you use natural tips the judges should not be able to see the colour of the tip and then the layer of acrylic. Achieve this by blending the tip very thin. The thinner the tip, the thinner the end nail will be.
 Whether smile lines are deep or soft they should be consistent.
 Intensify your colour by blotting the liquid out of the back of your brush.
 The apex arch must be consistent and in the same place on each nail.
 Red polish must be crème and not pearlised or shimmer.
 Ensure polished hand is buffed to a shine as this will make polish look glossier.
 No polish should be seen underneath the nail.
 Polish should be close to the cuticle but not touching it. Achieve this by pushing back the cuticles; painting and then pulling the skin back to look like a tight fit.
 Use pink and white powders or gels to ensure maximum marks.
 Use clear powder or UV gel in Zone 2 behind the white to avoid clouding / shadowing of the smile line.
 The use of oil is NOT permitted. Use a water spray and tissue / towel to remove debris and dust.
 Look at magazines and pictures of past winners.
