Natural nails peeling due to medicines

Hi

I am lookin for advice. My sister, who had beautiful healthy nails, has suddenly got problems with the nails peeling and splitting. I think it could be new mediction she has been put on by her doctor which is called Antepsin which helps with stomache problems.

I tried giving her a natural nail gel overlay but these just literally peeled off the nail!!! I did this to try and protect her nails until maybe her body adapted to the new medication she is taking.

I have just newly retrained so I do not want to do anything else incase I damage her nails further.

Can someone advise me which is the best course of action for her to restrengthen her nails. I did give her cuticle oil which she has been using twice a day but this does not seem to be making any difference.

Any advice would be really welcome.

Hi, i would try a good basecoat. I would recommend Jessica Fusions basecoat for peeling nails which has rubberised resins that help to fuse the delicate layers of nail tissue and the obvious keep out of water and phenomen oil rubbed into the cuticles..xx

One of my clients has MS and diabetes (amongst other ailments), she's on A LOT of meds per day, her nails peel and split but have been much better since having a NNO with L+P, she's not suffered with any of her 'usual problems' and is an avid user of Solar Oil too.

it COULD be down to the system you use flower - my daughter cant wear cnd products, no matter how i try - ive double prepped etc, and still no joy - BUT she can wear OPI products with no probs at all - this baffles me

Thank you everyone who has replied. It really is a shame as she is quite upset about it having always had beautiful well kept and cared for nails. Have always been jealous of her nails .

I will let her know all your suggestions and let her chose which one she is comfortable with. She is on so much medication due to various medical ailments but never affected her nails like this before being given this new medication.

My nails also used to peel, split and break after I had been diagnosed with a medical condition. I tried all sorts over a period of almost 4 years and I then tried OPI's Nail Envy and Avoplex oil and I now have my lovely, long, strong nails back. I could see a difference within 2 weeks of trying the products.
