Hiya

In a new area, trying to get quality training (which I'm on with from the info people have kindly given me here) but I'd love to be able to meet with a qualified nail tech in my area to chat to, ask advice etc, etc.

I know there are two salons in my area. Would it be a resounding no, to try and have a chat with them about going mobile in my area, training etc?

Would this be just toooooo cheeky?

Tracey

In my opinion, no. A strong industry is a supportive industry. Although you may come across people who may not feel the same way...

When I first started out, I did exactly the same thing. I rang a few salons, visited them for a chat and they were really helpful and encouraging.

So onward and upward! Good luck!

thanks Velveteen x

Hmm, If someone rang me, saying they wanted to set up mobile in my area, and would I help them and advise them.................... If I'm honest, no.

People on here are not competitors, so I am happy to help.

Competitors, your on your own!

I totally agree with Dawn .. I don't think you can expect much interest or help if you intend to compete in the same area .. like Dawn, I wouldn't be inclined. No one helped me in that way (not that there was anyone else then )

I think it shows a certain 'flaw' shall we say, in a person's attitude if they need their hands holding in this way when intending to start a business. I am only stating my opinion.

I have no 'flaws' in my attitude and I definately dont need my hand holding in any way. Thanks for the advice..

Calm down! Does the cap fit you?! Gigi only stated her opinion!

Ok, let's reverse the roles here; would you do the same thing for another mobile therapist if they were in the same position?

To be honest, I agree with both Gigi and Dawn. It's a tough world out there. Be aware of that, if you are going to run a business. Try your best to learn all of the different aspecs of it.

Nothing comes easy and no-one is there to just answer a call for someone who wants help for something they can actually work hard at and do for themselves.

Just my opinion!

hey like you say its a hard world out there and yes I'm going to work hard at making it work for me.

Well thanks for your opinion, but I will just keep going with the helpful advice I've had so far....and let others carry on with whatever they wish to do.

Thanks

I would be inclined to say no too...purely because in the past I have said yes and its bitten me on the bum.

...I am very friendly with another nail tech and geek on here and we don't live too far from each but its never been a problem...reason being that we where both well established when we got together...but for 1 to be already set up and the other to be new and wanting help.....it would appear only beneficial to the one wanting help.

Thanks Angie

Can understand what you mean......think it may be best to keep it to myself. Will just have to learn as I go.

Thanks again

Look Trace we could all be lovely and say of course we would be helpful and give advice to someone who is planning on setting up in competition with us- the fact of the matter is most of us would be telling fibs.

You can get great advice on this site, all you need really, because if the person or persons that you go to in your area are giving you terrible advice-how will you know?
Perhaps they are giving you bad advice to put you off?
Or maybe they are not that good themselves?
At least on this site you get many many opinions, and also from some of the Greats of this industry. And if someone offers advice that may not be wonderful ,there are lots of experts who will see it and put it right.
You cannot in fairness ask a question on this site if you dont want honest opinions-cos thats what you get.
If you are determined that this industry is for you, take all the advice you can get-I could have avoided so many mistakes if a site like this was around when I first started( in the stone age!)

Thanks for your advice and I've been getting LOADS of support and advice from some really lovely people.

Thanks again

Unfortunately, 'advice' does not always include the things one wants to hear and may even contain some uncomfortable truths but the motive behind it can't be faulted which is that people give their time on this site to HELP ... they don't give their time and advice to be obstructive.

If all one wants to do is to pick out the bits from the advice given, that just goes along or concurs with what one wantsto do then the question has got to be, why ask for the advice in the first place?

Advice should be looked at, time taken, pros and cons pondered over, weighed up and then conclusions reached. Quick decisions on major issues in business are not generally good decisions.

Geeg is right. There is all the help and advice available on this site from people who have no axe to grind.

I am more than happy to give freely of my experience and expertise

However if you try and operate on my doorstep, you would realise how ruthless I am at crushing the competition!

It is sensible business and not personal.

If you feel that you want to share your salary with your friends, then carry on. I don't believe I have "friends" in business.

If you don't want opinions, then posting on a forum asking for opinions is a bit daft.

Thanks for the invaluable advice....sure I will use it wisely
