Hi Everyone

I have now moved over to Israel and have found myself working in a hair salon as a nail tech. I have brought with me all the CND products. Mostly I do manicures and pedicures using the almond spa manicure and earth spa pedicure products. I thought the products would go down a storm, but apparently my services are too expensive!!!! I have had to lower my prices because everyone moans and groans.

I had a client today which was in her 80's and couldn't speak a word of English!!! she had a basic manicure with a file and polish. Her nails were hard like diamonds and as long as talons. She wanted them really short, but no matter which clipper I used to clip her nails, she moaned that it hurt!!! then I filed her nails into shape with the kanga board. That hurt too!!!! I attempted to fill out the client consultation card with the owner translating. Apparently this isn't done in Israel!!!!! everything I do is wrong. They want me to put a bin liner inside my footsie bath before a client uses it. I clean and sanitise it before and after every client. These people are driving me nuts.

Totally fed up. I am making no money because the owner of the shop is taking 50% of my earnings at the moment. I want to leave, but the nail shop opposite is like a sweat shop for nails. They are turning out nails quick and they are so bloomin ugly!!!!! thick and large. No thanks. I would rather suffer and produce nails the way I was taught by CND

Oops forgot to ask the question I logged on to ask. Too busy having a rant.

What is the best tool to cut long and very tough finger and toe nails?

thank you

I suppose you have to consider that at 80 years old she's kind of earned the right to be a bit.... odd. I plan on being extremely odd and difficult if I manage to live to such a grand old age. I wouldn't imagine that you'll find every client as difficult and complaining.

Stick with it a while. Every new job can be horrible at first while you get used to the different ways of working... and, don't forget, not only are you having to deal with a new workplace, it's a different country too - bound to feel weird.

Good luck - I hope it gets better quickly for you.

Sx

I load up the nails with Solar Oil then cut using a regular nail clipper BUT I clip small bits at a time til I get about the length I want, the I file and shape. HTH and best of luck to you! :)

solar oil or soake them first , but if you do use solar oil make sure you scrubfresh before you buff or polish .

The Israelites are one tough bunch of cookies (understandably) they are not easy to deal with and they WILL wear you down if it is at all possible to do so.
You will have to decide to give in or NOT. I know I would not.

I have dealt with many many ladies of the Jewish faith and many Israelites and I know them very very well indeed. They will respect you if you keep to your standards and methods but not if you give in to them. At the moment they totally have the upper hand with you .... don't let them. You are you and you have your price and standards that is the way it is .. to bad if it is different to what they have seen before; that doesn't make it wrong. They can take it or leave it ... some will and some won't. Be pleasant and be firm (very firm) they understand firm and they are used to it. Stick to your guns.

So - I own a salon in Har Nof and am potentially looking to hire somoene or slowly train someone in over the next few mos. since I am expecting. I have 2 great workers - a great team - english speaking - but I do need my workers to be able to communicate in hebrew as well..........anyways, you have any waxing training??? Give me a call!

p.s. which place are you at in town?????

If the owner is getting 50% who is buying the supplies? In the US if you are buying the supplies the owner doesn't get that much commission. You may need to renegotiate this with her. If she wants 50% then she should buy some of the supplies.

You may need to just get a tougher skin. They don't think the way we do and their attitudes are different. You can't change them, you can only change yourself.

As far as thick nails, using your nail clipper and clipping a little bit on each side releases any pressure and makes it easier to clip the middle. If that doesn't work, then soaking for a short period of time would also help.

Good luck and hang in there and hopefully it will all work out.
