hello
i have been doing nails for years l & p and fibreglass but had a few people asking for gel so i went on a course last week and got my second day next week, i did my first full set of pink and whites and they look good but need some more practise, they took me 3 hours to do, i was shocked that i took so long,
how long do they take you to do?
thanks x

Unfortunately its one of those things. Practise Practise Practise. £ hrs is not really that long for your very first set especially pink and whites!! I cant really speak for gel at the moment becasue i mainly do acrylic but with time your time will get better. I've just left a salon to go mobile and to be honest as long as you send out a good full set and great looking nails customers wont mind how long you take especially if they know your training. Keep at it! you'll get there xx Send us some pics - we'd love to see ;D

Hi Tracey, most of my clients are l&p, but I love doing gel, I did gel in my original course then done my conversion with Ezflow. I think, as said before it is just a matter of loads of practice. I practice a lot on my nail trainer and tips too.

My times are coming down on my gel clients but I find myself 'faffing' about with the white too much, because you can, as you know. My educator kept telling me on my course to stop playing about with the white too much.

Just keep at it hun and you will get there.

Hello!

I'm doing this the other way around - I'll be training in l&p in a couple of months, did my initial training in gel nearly 5 years ago and my first set took 3 1/4 hours so don't worry!!
Have a feeling my first l&p set will be slightly longer than I take for gels, but my guinea pigs, sorry, willing friends, will just have to put up with me until I've perfected it!!
My full sets now take between 1 to 1 1/2 hours depending on the state of the nails to begin with! Infills are usually 50 mins to 1 hr 15 mins, but I could be far quicker if I didn't talk so much!!

Good luck with the gels!! xx

Dont get disheatened, any new system is going to take you longer. Its best to get it to your full satisfaction first then concentrate on your time, it will soon come down. Good luck and hope you enjoy. xx

Well, my first set took me almost 4 hours so don't feel bad. Now it takes me 1 hour for a full set, and an average of 30-45 minutes for a fill.

Visit my webite and check out some video tutorials I have posted there, they may helpful.

dont stress you will get faster took me 3 hours too first off, u need develope your own technique then it'll go quickly

thanks everyone
did a set of gel overlays on my mother in law 4 days ago and the ends are chipping already, i capped the free edge. just dont no what i did wrong

You probably applied the gel too thin. Your application will depend upon what gel line you are using. For example, a soakable gel is usually more flexible so you can apply it thin and it will flex with the nail. However, if you are using a traditional buff off gel it is harder(less flex) and if applied too thin it will chip. Next time apply an extra layer or two. Check to make sure you have at least 1-2 credit card thickness at the edge of the nail.

Hi,

It might just be me, but I find gels take slightly longer than acrylic anyway. Are you using an electric file/drill? I have always been so against them but a friend of mine uses 1 (for infills & smoothing off the product) and it does seem to be so much quicker, epecially infills! Any thoughts? I am tempted to buy one and I have seen hundreds on ebay but shipping from hong knog ect. I am a bit unsure!!! :green:

hi ashley
i dont use a drill but i would like to get one but they are so expensive so ill give it a miss for now, i had a client that had a nail broke of at the top so i had to file it all of because its a file of gel and thought it would save so much time,

Hi

I do gels (NSI), I don't do acrylic. I qualified at the end of last year and I'm still trying to build up a client base so haven't done loads of sets. It still takes me 2 and a half hours and it's so frustrating! Apparently NSI are going to be bringing out some new tips which don't have to be blended at all (they've got the new white tips, and are supposed to be doing clear and natural tips the same too). I think this will really help to reduce my time. I think it really is just a case of practice. I know what you mean though!

thanks geeks
im down to 2 and a half hours now so im getting there, i will also have to stop talking then maybe ill be quicker lol

Why? Can she not do it or is there a particular reason?

I have no idea, when looked at her credentials in she offered 3/4 systems, i didn't mind which i had.
When i booked she said she only offered gel system which i was fine with, however I did stated a would like french manicure, which ever system was used.
After my nails were finished she said she didn't do french manicure and i had to have plain plolish, which i did, I love the colour it's a new one by creative but....

I like french manicure for everyday and plain polish for evenings or special occasions, that's just me though.

I qualified with gel 2 yrs ago and dropped it for 18 monthes till, last month i was asked to do a full set, pink&white, again. with no tip and no drill, it took me less than 2 hours I was amazed.
so I guess once you know how to, you never really forget, but you need to practice a lot...
