New York Trip

I reach the big 40 next year and would like to go to New York with my best mate, my best mate ddoesn't have much money so I will be paying, does anyone know of any cheap flights/packages there, if there is such a thing.
I obviously want to go shopping but would ideally love to see the sights aswell.
I will be going in August and only staying 2-4 days, depending on cost.

The cheapest way to do it is book the flight and hotel separately,
the cheapest airline to go there is United airlines, the cheapest hotel is probably the pennsylvania which is in Manhattan its self,
you can do all this online but check ebooker first, there are sometimes some good deals on there, this is also online hth
