Hi everyone, i'm totally new to this site but have been viewing for weeks, trawling through all the fantastic advice and information on spray tanning which i'm about to start soon.

One thing I'm worried about is my confidence, which i know will come with experience and once i get started it will grow, however i thought of advertising for 'guinea pigs' as it were. Obviously i would word it differently, newly trained etc looking for people to be sprayed at a reduced cost.

I have done family members but would prefer to do some more people who i dont know before i get out there properly. What does anyone think? Good or bad idea?? I know it would cost me to advertise but hopefully in the long run it would be beneficial?

Try salon guinea pig site. There are people on there who offer to have certain treatments done for people to practice on :)

I think it's great you feel ready to work on people outside your family and friends

How about advertising an introductory offer, eg. Newly Qualified and Insured Spray Tan Techician - Introductory Offer £** for 3 weeks only (or something like that!)

I'm sure your confidence will soon soar! xx

This is a great idea hun! I know how you feel at first i was a bag of nervs.

But still charge something even if its 5 pounds or 10 pounds as you need to cover your costs still! Also this will help you to gain new clients so when you decide to stop guinea pigging you will hopefully have a nice group of clients when you charge your nomal price i say GO FOR IT!

aw thanks for the quick replies, everyone is so supportive on here, thank you, i will seriously think about your ideas, wish someone would be able to give me a kick up the behind aswell!!

I wouldn't offer yor spray tans at a reduced price just because you are new to it, this will undermine your client's confidence in YOU. If you want to do them as a special offer then that would be fine imho.

If you have been trained correctly then your confidence will grow the more tans you do.

I am not far away from you and if I can be of any help then please let me know.

Hi all - i would like some info on spray tanning - any ideas of varying costs of set up would help ( for mobile)

Hi Kat,

I am in Altrincham but shortly to move to Ashton on Mersey, just outside Sale. Only about half an hour's drive away from you.

Hi Kat,

We have all been there, shaking like a leaf worrying that everything will go wrong. Guess what... It rarely goes wrong if you are well trained and prepared for all eventualities.

I agree with Joe, don't discount your services just because you are new to the industry, I also think that it will undermine your customers confidence in you. Plus, how do you tell someone you have been charging a small fee that you now want double or any amount more. EMBARRASSING !

I used to run "Special Offers" 20% off for this month only, or Halloween Special discounted 1 week only, etc. That way when customers call you can say what your price usually is but for this time period it will be XXX. It seems to work and when the time period is up they are more than happy to pay full price.

Your confidence will improve and after your first 10 or so you will really start enjoying it

Good Luck and DONT WORRY ( Sorry didn't mean to shout)

Kind Regards
Nikki:hug:

I done a 1 day training course and for the first 3-4 weeks i done model training e.g charging half price for tan for practice.

Confidence built up within 2 months and i felt great then.
Spray tanning is quick and easy money audopends on the area, i worked home based with my tanning.

Absolutely you can Kat, not a problem.

I had absolutely appauling training and it did take me a couple of weeks before I stopped worrying about how my tans were turning out - I never rang anyone to check as it would have seemed to the customer that I was not competent. Never had a complaint and do get repeat business all the time.

Let's see if we can't get you a few models one day and we will get you sorted!!
