Hiya! I opened my own salon just before Christmas, and all went very well but i need to now start advertising, which way is the best form of advertising, and also a proven way of getting to the target audience? Thank you x

Have you done any advertising at all ?

I have always found the best method of advertising to be my local paper but only if it is a decent size advert and run over a course of weeks.

puting your detail on all the free online advertising sites, yell, thomson, google local business centre helps, there are lots more as well, and what about gumtree, lots og peole use gumtree, its free to post an advertisement, and there are different pages for each area, so it will be people in your own are that will be looking, you have to post a new advert every week or so, but I think gumtree is used alot by people, hth x ruth

Ruthlm has the right idea. Free online advertising. It's probably worth doing some homework for your geographic locale to see what sites people frequent when they're looking for your service.

Print advertising is a dying medium and it has a short shelf-life--in my opinion, you're better off lighting your money on fire with print ads. When you're looking for a good or service, chances are you use Google, just like your customers. Ranking well there can have a big impact--it's not magic, it's a process.

Another strategy to consider is researching services or products that you have to see which ones generate the most search volume. Also paying attention to vendors that get a lot of press is a good idea, too. My wife's salon has a vendor that regularly gets a editorial mentions in widely read magazines in the U.S.--we have a pages set up to capture traffic when that happens on our site.

If you have further questions, feel free to PM me.
