Hi

Brief background... I'm currently completing my Level 2 manicure/pedicure qualification before going onto a nail technician course (not sure which yet).

I have seen that NSI are running a half day Hollywood Toes course for the application of gel to the toes. In the detail of the course it says no prior experience is required (not even mani/pedi qual). I have phoned to double check this.

I was thinking that with summer coming up I may have quite a few friends that might like this before going on holiday and might bring me some business in on the manicure/pedicure front also, while I start and complete my nail tech course.

I just found it a little strange that no experience is necessary to do it. Has anyone got any thoughts on whether they think this is a good idea or not? It is some initial outlay which might make my costs more in the long term but would start to generate some income early for me to build up my kit.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Gilly T :)

Gel toes are relatively straightforward for a trained nail tech.

If you are not yet qualified you will not be able to get insurance (which is essential) and you may not have covered all aspects required to supply this service.

I wasn't intending offering them until I qualify in Nail Treatments, however, I am very surprised that NSI offer this course with no pre qualification or experience requirements when they know that people will not get insurance to cover them. NSI obviously think they are straightforward for anyone to do if you don't need experience of any kind to do the course.

NSI have some excellent educators and they will probably tell you who will provide the insurance for you too , also they may offer you advice of when you'll be able to offer the Hollywood toes as a paying service

If you really want to do this course you can go ahead ,
I would class this as another string to your bow ,

you could go and give NSI another ring they may be in a better position to answer all your questions for you about your insurance ect ,
good luck  x

That's a great idea. I'll ring them tomorrow. I know I can get insurance through the guild as a student and then when I qualify in manicure and pedicure. I might ask them about this too!

I'm really excited now.. I need as many strings in my bow as I can get. Need more dosh really to pay for these wonderful courses I want to do!

Thanks for your advice!!

Just thought I'd let people know (incase you're interested). I've contacted NSI and on completion of the course you receive a certificate for it that you can get insurance for. They did stress that, as with anything, practice is needed after the course as with anything.

Thanks for your help folks
