This was done on top of gel overlay. It was Morgan Taylor polish.
Painted the whole nail with the base colour, then used a sponge to dab on the colour in an upwards motion. Then use the brush to cap the free edge.

I use kitchen sponges and pull the hard side off and use the soft side then cut into strips. I find that you get a better payload of colour but sometimes you don't get a shiny smooth surface until the top coat goes on.

Can anyone recommend a nice blue additive/powder. I want a mid blue. Like the colour of the send button when you are replying to a thread on here lol. Thanks :)

This blue is Midnight Tide CND additive :D

These are some I done xImageUploadedBySalonGeek1403035327.705573.jpg

I did this using the Mica pigment powders, there is a seller on FB and ebay called GlitterArty_Nails - they have some amazing colours and collections and quite reasonable too!
I can not get the hang of doing it with a gel polish in the slightest! I find the sponge technique just soaks up too much of the gel polish and end up with hardly any on the nail :|

I did these just using Gelish and a gel brush... ImageUploadedBySalonGeek1405250199.643562.jpgImageUploadedBySalonGeek1405249944.216139.jpgImageUploadedBySalonGeek1405250004.799282.jpgImageUploadedBySalonGeek1405250093.225985.jpg

Some of mine, done with mica powder and a brush or Gelish with a sponge =)

How do you do yours with a sponge? I have tried a couple of times but it never seems to work!

I do the base colour all over and cure the drop some of the other colour onto foil and use a sponge to dab it on. I start with a really small amount so it fades together smoothly then I add more towards the tip and build it up =) I either use a disposable make up wedge sponge or the little disposable sponge applicators for eyeshadow x

acrylic paints and makeup sponges, get some YouTube tutorials etc it's easier than it looks

I'm having real trouble getting my ombré nails to work :-( I tried with 2 gel colors and then with pigment on top of gels but just can't seem to get the fade line to actually fade, tried using a makeup sponge just left it speckly and a nail art brush to adhere the pigments, any help would be great, tried watching nearly 50 you tube videos and still no joyImageUploadedBySalonGeek1406062489.879508.jpgImageUploadedBySalonGeek1406062521.905197.jpgImageUploadedBySalonGeek1406062549.738888.jpg

I start at the cuticle end the apply a complete coverage of the additive colour then gently drag with my CND gel brush down but dont reapply any additive further down the nail just use what you have and fade it down :) be very light handed x
