I have just returned from a few days away and ever since i came back I have problems with my computer.

I cannot seem to download my Hotmail messages to my inbox - no problems before.

When I go on the internet, I get regular "problem loading page" messages, it takes a few F5s before I can get there.

It is driving me nuts. Any ideas?

Doh just typed a load of stuff and then lost it

Cut down version 'cos I've gotta dash

Clear out your temp files
Defrag your hardrive
Do a scan disk

Sandi mentioned (I think) cc cleaner for easy clearing of temp and junk files

Diskeeper 2008 is a fab defrag - it is a 30 day try before you buy

and you set the scan disk up from your PC (can also dejunk and defrag from this option as well) click on your the letter of your hard drive - usually C:\

Then right click once

Choose properties

Choose Disk Cleanup

Or choose Tools

Then choose either defrag or error checking (you will need to reboot for the error checking to start - make sure both boxes are checked as well)

It may be slightly different on your PC but you will get the jist of it - sorry if you know all this already - or tried it already !

If no better later give me a shout

Thanks Deb.

OK now done all this and not much different. It is a pain because it is intermittent. Maybe it is just a glitch and it will sort itself out.

Fi (and any others who may have come across this problem ) sometimes some files can corrupt - not sure what web browser you are using but this link refers to internet explorer

Error message when you try to access a Web site in Internet Explorer 6: "Page Cannot Be Displayed"

In short

Go to start and click on run. Type in "cmd" and click OK. Type in "netsh int ip reset filename.txt" and hit enter. Close out and then access the internet as normal. You may have to do it more than once????

Make sure you back up your important files before doing anything - oh and have you tried system restore? (I don't bother with it personally) it may help.

If it is a different browser check this site out :green:

I'm having the same problems.

The computer goes onto internet but comes up as webpage cannot be displayed or internet Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

  •
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.
What you can try:

Diagnose Connection Problems

More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:
  •
Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
  • If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.
For offline users

You can still view subscribed feeds and some recently viewed webpages.
To view subscribed feeds
  1. Click the Favorites Center button
    favcenter.png
, click Feeds, and then click the feed you want to view.
To view recently visited webpages (might not work on all pages)

, click History, and then click the page you want to view.
If I click that pages comes up a few times then it works OK. it took me 6 attempts to get onto salon geek today and 4 to get onto hotmail.

if I press diagnose problem mostly it states that their isn't any problem or that I am not connected to the internet.

I've defragged and emptied all those files.

I even downloaded another free anti virus package and have swept the computer twice.

its still not working as it should.

I have just had the same problem and it turned out to be a virus.Download AVG its free of charge and will scan ur computer for viruses etc.Hope this helps...let me no how u get on xxx

I've already got AVG 8, and also just put Superanitspyware on. It did pick up a Trojan which it says has got rid of. I've scanned the whole computer again with AVG and SuperAntiSpyware and it didn't pick the Trojan up again.

I'm now looking into how much memory I've got with files as I've got a lot on at the moment. Just can't remember how to do it!!!!

I use Sophos Anti Virus and it updates automatically - I ran it today manually and it didnt find anything wrong.

PM Seanny or Ruth Mills they're good with computers x
