hi guys, im in real need of some thoughts on my nail situation.
ive been a nail biter al my life so when i start growing them a couple of months ago it starts to turn white about half way down my nail, as that is where my nail usually stopped. so all the old nail is getting lots of air under it and getting dirt under it, but i am under the impression that i shouldnt be sticking things under the nail, because that wil further lift the nails.so do you suggest i keep them long or short and if short, how short? also ive been using a hand moisturiser and been reading about this solar oil stuff.
thanks guys, you rock anyway, so i guess waht im asking is, for an ex chronic nail biter, what is the bet way to get the nail to reattatch to the nail bed so the nails are no longer white.
thanks guys, any help would be so greatly accepted
peace

Well done for stopping the biting :)

I would suggest that you keep your nails short and use a nail brush to keep them clean. I would recommend using solar oil as many times a day as possible to encourage the nail to reattach HTH

thanks adele,
So should i be careful not to get underneath the newly grown nails, only brush on top?, i read that you shouldnt let any instruments underneath, but at the same time you have to get rid of the dirt to stop any fungus i think, maybe i need to learn to wash my hands properly!!., oh and can you get solar oil from the chemist?
cheers
matt

First know that it will take months and months even years of NO BITING for your nail plate to re-attach to the bed.

You can disguise the overly long white though by wearing polish. Also wearing enhancements does help the plate to reattach to the bed an keeps helps you to stop the biting.

With a custom blended enhancement you can have the best of all worlds. You can hide the regrowth completely AND encourage the re-attaching all in one go and have instantly transformed nails..

hi gigi, thanks for the message
but frankly cause im a guy im a bit embarassed going to a salon for a custom blended whateveryoucallit, unless i could find a little quiet place, i dont particularly want to sit in the cbd mall getting my nails done. im happy just working on them at home, but get some solar oil ofcourse!!, actually since i trimmed my nails back, because i was growing them for two months, now they are growing much closer to the nail plate, even though its all white, its not lifting up like a little skateboard ramp. anyway the next question i was wondering, (as i want to get into a good routine before i start growing my nails). is
as my nails grow out they will get dirt under them(even though they are now much closer to the bed) and ill try cleaning them withsoap but all the gunk wont come out asperfectly as id like, im sure!!, so should i leave the discoloration underneath to grow out, and risk infection from the dirt or grime, or should i clean under with a scrubbing nail brush and risk ruining my newly, attemtpting to attatch, nails?
thanks again guys, any help would be really appreciated
sincerely

I'm sorry Mathew ... I just read the post and didn't see that I was talking to a fella!! I guess using polish colour to disguise your nails would not be quite the ticket then for you!! Although I've heard that David Beckham often wears black polish .

The thing that will help the most with the regeneration of the nail bed is regular use of Solar Oil. In your case, the nail bed is so hard that it takes a long time for it to soften and allow the nail to 'get closer to the bed' as you describe. Solar Oil will help to soften the bed epithelium tissue so helping the nail plate to reattach more quickly.

You can keep your nails clean with a soft brushing, just don't get too vigorous. An old toothbrush could be good for this. One nail at a time.

Always Keeping your nails neatly trimmed will take any pressure off the ends of your nails as well so that there is less chance of knocking them and detaching the free edge yet again. The attachment will always be more fragile over the repaired part of you nails ... forever I'm afraid.

However the good news is that you CAN do it. My ex husband was a cannibal nail biter and he stopped about 10 years ago. I couldn't believe how his nails had repaired when I last saw him. They will never be perfectly shaped, but they were neat and tidy and normal looking. He'd bitten them for 50 years!

Hi Matthew - well done on the stopping biting mate, it's a real achievement x
Geegs suggestion of a toothbrush is a great idea - I'd go the local chemist/store & get a baby's toothbrush as it will be nice and soft.
I'd also suggest you do the brushing after you have had your hands in water/bathing etc as this will help to loosen and soften the grime behind the nail. If you are doing work that's dirty - can you wear gloves at all?

As for getting your hands on 'Solar Oil' - you need to find your local 'Creative Nail Design'/CND nail technician and she/he should have some for retailing.

Stick with it, it'll be well worth the hassle.
