I'm renting a room and nail station in a hairdressers and she doesnt open mondays

i enjoy having the day off but if she opened i'd be in there without a second thought

Am i losing out on clients by not being open on mondays?

Hi Ash,

I would imagine it depends on where you are located in Dublin, if your shop is an area /place that gets major foot-traffic such as Blanchardstown Centre, The Square, Dundrum Shopping Centre or in around Dublin City Centre then I think your boss may be missing out on business opportunities, if however your shop is in the suburbs of Dublin then Monday is typically the day off.

we are in crumlin directly across from the old crumlin shopping center which is being closed down theres only a dunnes and tesco inside it.

They're are six other salons that i can walk to from our place and none open on mondays so i feel we are missing out or am i just my own personal slave driver.

I know the area, perhaps do a survey of your clients and ask them what their thoughts would be on Monday openings (after all it is their opinions that count).

yeah thats a good idea ill start asking and see what they think,

As it is new clients you wish to attract not just spread the ones you have over a longer working week, why not just go for it!!
Open on Mondays for a trial period of say 4-6 weeks, and see what new custom it attracts, and if it is worth your while make it permanent, if not go back to your normal working hours.

the salon is only open about 6 weeks so we really are tryin to get numbers in i just feel like im losing out by being closed.

Mondays are a great day to be open, in my experience, can be just as busy as a Saturday.

it depends on how busy you are the other days you work, If your allmost fully booked the other days it may be worth thinking of working a monday. If not then work on building the other days up first.
if you dont your working a full extra day for no more clients.

A Monday is a typically busy day for me. Today I started the day with only 2 people booked in, and at the end of the day I had 2 cut and colours, 3 cut and blow dries, a childs cut and a blow dry. I have been constantly busy between 10 and 4, which since we are only open for about 6 months, I am pleased about. None of the salons in our area open on Mondays and I often get clients saying how handy it is, and other salonds clients coming in if they are going out that night and want a blow dry. I don't mind this as you never know, one day they may book in for a cut or something else!! A Monday can be a typical day off for a lot of people, including hairdressers. Think if you had a hairdresser as a client who then would pass on that you are good to her clients... :D

Can you open the shop yourself and just do nails? Could you do some kind of a Monday promotion to see if there are the people about to make your Monday busy? xxx

I have been working all day solid in my salon. Mondays are good for me. Try approaching the owner.

i agree with all the replys, im sometimes busy on mondays then the next its quiet, it money at the end of the day as you said you dont mind going in on mondays, ask the salon owner if you can open mondays just for nails, as everywhere else is closed on this day then there is money to be made and you could gain more new clients, just do it for a short while though and if its not worth opening then enjoy the day off.
my friend rented a room in a salon that didnt open on fridays (of all days) which i think should be there busiest time, she asked if she could open the shop to work and they charged her an extra £20 just for fridays which i thought was disgraceful.

hope this helps:)

You never know, if you opened on your own on a Monday it may make them realise they could be busy with hair clients on a Monday too :D x
