I am trying to decide whether to get some more OPI soak off colours. What do you guys think will the traditional soak off gels like OPI Axxium be obsolete with the new Shellac coming out? Should I wait the two weeks and just stock up on Shellac? I was going to get Shellac anyway but just wondering whether there is any point in getting more OPI?

I have just bought pinks and pales soak off kit, I love them, wont be obsolete with me :D

No i don't think so because from what I understand you can't extend out will shellac.

There will be call for both so if you can afford it stock both!

I didn't realize you can extend with opi soak off, assumed it would be too soft. I thought they are just for nno's.

I'm in the same predictament. I have hundreds invested in the Axxium gels and am worried once they come out with some more Shellac colors in the fall, I won't want to use the OPI. Oh well I guess!

I think you're jumping the gun to be honest. None of us have used Shellac yet, none of us know how it will fit into our product lines. Personally I am expecting to use both alongside each other and see how it goes. I know we all have high expectations of Shellac but it's not going to be a panacea that negates the need for any other product!!! Also, the soak off OPI Axxium isn't exactly an old product with out of date technology is it?

I see nothing wrong is running products alongside each other to cover all bases.....

i love opi axxium soak off gels! i am interested in shellac but i dont think it will take over from other soak off gels. ive just bought a couple of new axxium colours and im loving them!

I tried Shellac today at the Event and am impressed with it but I won't start replacing my axxium until I see how the client's get on with it. Also, OPI does have a much bigger colour range at the moment (although CND are bringing out an additional 12 colours in the 'fall' apparently!).

Shellac is different to the axxium soak off gel - for lots of reasons (as CND won't let us forget!!) - the main one that I see is that it goes on a lot more like a lacquer, it's not 'gelly' like the gel (surprising that!) and is a hell of a lot easier to put on IMO.

If Shellac really does wear as well as the CND guys and gals say then I will probably phase out the OPI but not for a while. And sometimes clients go for the brand so may wanna stick with their favourite colour 'lincoln park after dark' even if the alternative in another brand is very similar.

At the moment Shellac seems better to me because the mirror finish really is blimmin shiny and it's easy to apply. Today we were told it really does come off in ten minutes. To be fair, the OPI soak off has also always soaked off pretty quickly with me too. The real truth in the comparison will be how this beautiful shellac wears over the next 14 days (guaranteed!!).

HTH's a bit, Bez

From what I had heard so far about Shellac I really like the sound of it. Hence my reluctance to invest any more money in the Axxium soak off, especially since I had a bit of a problem getting it to soak off last time I tried. It took me at least one hour. Granted I had forgotten to first file the surface to break the seal and suppose it was applied slightly thicker. Would make any difference?

Filing first is definitely necessary. I remove about 25-50% of it before soaking, otherwise is definitely does take longer than 10 minutes! I've also found that if you're soaking off after only one application, it's quick and easy, but after 3 fills or so, it gets damn near impossible to get off. I've implemented that rule for my clients. 3 fills, 4th has to be a soak off and new application. Their nails were getting way too damaged to me.

If Shellac lives up to the hype (which CND generally does for me..), I'm quite sure I will like it better than the OPI. The no filing really appeals to me, and I like the sound of the application.

I'd wait until you try Shellac before ordering new colors, just to be safe. But like I said earlier, until CND releases new shades, the OPI is going to be useful for selection for the time being.

So I could fill the soak off french? I always thought you have to completely remove the colored layer every time, i.e. my clients would come in every 2-3 wks. I would soak off everything and re-apply like I would on the very first set. I only ever filled the buff off NNOs.

Yes, you can fill instead of soak off every time. I do the color over the white (usually bubble bath, hawaiian orchid or passion), so when the client returns,I filing the top coat, most of the color and the white off, leaving mostly just the clear base. The trick is to really make sure there will be no fill lines with french, which can be challenging with a soak off gel, considering the rubbery nature. Don't use anything lower than a 180, otherwise you will just loosen the whole thing and it will peel right off.

It took me awhile to get the fills to look as good as the fresh application, but as long as you file zone 3 flush to the nail and concentrate your fill product there and just lightly feather over the reast of the nail, it'll look as good as new!
