I'm hoping one of you beauty girls can help my Mam out please!

She has about 50 fairly thick hairs on her top lip and chin. Some are dark, but some have no pigment.

Over the years she has spent a small fortune trying to get rid of them. She had electrolysis for about 7 years, but they came back at the same rate as plucking or waxing.

About 6 months ago she read about a treatment called epilpro, described on the leaflet as -

"A specialised in salon treatment, Epil-Pro harnesses the power of energy which travels precisely down the hair shaft striking and degenerating the papillary cells at the root"

She has been going every fortnight for 6 months at £15 a go. But things are still the same. Regrowth can be felt after about 10 days.

Which is the way to go with this? She feels she is throwing good money after bad at the moment.

What treatments are available to PERMANENTLY remove hair? What names should she be looking for when finding a salon?

I know nothing about this side of things, but hey, at least her nails look nice, lol

Any help or advise would be really appreciated!

I have had 3 sessions on Intense Pulse Light on my chin and it is a miracle.

The hairs do grown back but really fine and a lot less.

I think another few treatments and it will be gone for good. The great thing is I can go approx. 2 months between treatments.

I have also had two treatments on my bikini line and it has hardly grown back.

Thoroughly recommend it.

Waxing gave me ingrown hairs, electrolysis too time consuming and expensive and didn't work.

Hiya
I'm looking into laser at the moment.. i'll get bact to you as soon as i find out the pros and cons of it

thinking of taking this up for my salon

i've said it before in a previous thread, but as much as i love doing electrolysis, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is definatly the way forward. It is a permanant method of hair removal and it WORKS. I've had 6 sessions on my underarms and the result is fantastic, IPL is more advanced than laser as it can treat different skin colours and hair colours where as laser can only treat dark hair and fair skin (unless laser has now caught up since i had IPL). It's no more painful than having waxing and you can have it done on any part of the body, except the curve of eyebrows as the applicator head is rectangular, and it's suitable for men and women.

check out Aculight - laser hair removal, temporary hair removal, hair removal system, hair reduction

Thanx for your replies girls!

Sounds like the IPL is the way forward then...... Is any one "Name" better than another? Had a look at the Aculight link (thanx littlepinkfairy!) and have to say it looks good, but want to compare it to others if possible.

Worked out she has spent over £500 per year for over 8 years! So really wants to spend her money with the right people this time, lol!

Hi there,

I used to do aculight and have to say it was excellent (results do vary though).

Epil pro isnt what i would call state of the art - its more of a tweezer method and not proven.

Electrolysis is still ideal for white hairs. But idf your mams hairs are very strong and dark - her results will be excellent, (quite the opposite as having electrolysis)

If the electrolysis was carried out properly then the hairs should not have returned as quickly as waxing - they should have thinned out over the years.

IPL machines are evolving all the time but when I did aculight - it was probably one of the best systems on the market.

I dont like the company very much - but I cant fault the system.
