hi everyone. i am wanting to start up my own mobile spray tanning business. im a single mum of 1 and i wondering if anyone knows if i could get funding from the princes trust for my course and starter kit. at first i want to go mobile then try to save to perhaps rent a room. i dont have any business plan to get a business loan. i am really serious about starting this and have lots of ideas but i just havnt got the money.

Hi, I received funding from the Princess Trust when I started up my first salon, I was referred to them through my local business enterprise.

It does take time and you will definetly need a business plan, which I got help planning from Grampian enterprise, you then go in front of a panel and present your business plan.

About 2 1/2 years later went back and got further funding to grow my business.

I would not be where I am today without the funding and support I got when I first started out

Good Luck!!!x

hi again,i hope you dont think im being nosey but was it a grant or a loan you got from them. i am needing £500 for my course and starter kit and i was thinking of making my own flyers and getting my own uniform. also do you no how much my insurence would be a month to do mobile spray tanning. sorry for all the questions. im all new to this

Hi, not at all, sorry i should have said, it was a loan I received, and it was £5,000. Do you have a local place where you can go for advice for starting up a small business? If you do i would def go for some advice, you never know you may qualify for funding :)

I can't give you an exact figure for insurance but it is not expensive for the whole year, also insurance companies vary.

Just make sure that when you complete your tanning course you will be able to obtain insurance with the certificate you will receive.

xx

i think i am going to search the net for somewhere local i can go for more advise on it. thank you so much natalie for your reply. its just something i would really like to do because its meeting new people and socialising also it is providing something good instead of wanting to own a sunbed shop and letting people risk getting skin cancer. im so nervous about doing a business plan because ive looked up on it and it all seems quite a bit difficult but suppose i cant expect to just have a business. i have to put hard work and effort into it x

If you contact your local business gateway the advisor will sit down with you and help you prepare a business plan they are really helpful, they will also help you prepare to go infront of the panel at Princes Trust if you want to apply for a loan.

Not sure if I've got this right but I think they only offer the 1k grant if you re currently unemployed I may be wrong tho so best to check with your local centre.

Hope this helps

I might be wrong, but I thought to get a Princes Trust funding , you needed to be giving job to the community - such as beauty therapists etc. This is only what i heard when my friend got it though, so best to check it out.

they do grants but there only tiny amounts of like £100 and they do loans which have got alot smaller recently.

I received a loan from them earlier in the year, and they gave me £1000 which is the maximum they would give as their budget had been reduced in dorset.

I had to show them i tried to get funding from other sources.. bank loans etc but failed and then i had to put my ideas to a panel and show them my business plan.

but i know a new thing they do, is to send you on a week training course before they do any thing now, i some one that just had to do this, and then received a small grant to help with some marketing she wanted.
