I'm personally having a nightmare slicing the canes! :irked: I use new blades, warm canes and products from the best people but only get a complete slice probably once in every 5 I try. I'm trying to get them very thin, maybe that's the problem but I can't use them if they're too thick!

Has anyone tried either the poly tools slicer or precise-a-slice or the JASI slicer? I have a few salons and would love to incorporate clay canes but it's just not working for me at the moment.

Strangely, I ordered a few slices on ebay from a guy in China I think, which were incredibly thin and perfect every time. I'm emailing him to ask how he does it but he probably just buys them in like that. I'll have to follow the trail to find out who is slicing them and how.

Any ideas?

Hey hun where did u get the pre sliced caines from I have seen loads but dont know which to buy. I know I wont have the patience to slice myself lol!!!

Tony Ransfield in New Zealand has lovely thin canes. Google her or she maybe even on here. HTHs x

I bought a load but haven't tried slicing yet. I was told though that they can be filed, so thought if they were a bit thick, I could file them down a bit, not tried it yet though

Toni's stuff is great. I'll be placing an order soon with her but I have to solve other issues first (see post re Cane experts help required).

Cat Thieren is great too as is Bonnie (Kennick Kreations & ebay) and Carolyn. Don't have links at hand but if you search this forum you'll find them. There's also a couple of other people on ebay who are in the UK.

Toni's canes are the only canes I've tried ..... they are thin, very detailed & a breeze to apply . . .
Too fiddly for me :irked: but Toni's got slicing down to a fine art making overlapping/layering of the designs even easier & thinner :).

Hi any one got a link for the canes ty :)

how are you warming them? i find rolling the cane in my hands like i wood do a bottle of polish , or if you have a little plastic bag like a sandwich bag put in in the bag then float the bag in a cup of hot water , the softer they are the thiner you can cut them , also though i have noticed some are better quallity than others some that i got from one place almost seemed to scrunch/crumble up when i cut them, good luck :)

i have had it sugested to me in the past about a matchstick cutter (you know the sort they use to make craft matchstick models) have not tried it myself as i use a scalple but could work x

Jacquie email me at [email protected] I have made a video to show how "I" slice my canes, its not ready for utube yet but I can send you the video to watch. Hopefully that will help. It does take a lot of practice..

I have been doing quite a bit of clay work as a hobby. I tend to slice my canes when they are cool or almost frozen. Sometimes put them in the freezer for a bit to make it easier to cut. When you cut don't push through but roll the cane back and forth while you apply gently pressure with your blade. If you cut a cane that is too soft and put too much pressure on you will squash it, i.e. it's no longer round. Hope that helps.

annasmum~she is slicing baked canes not raw at least i think that is what you are refering to.

To slice baked canes its best to have them warmed, the blade will slice through easier. If you use my canes you dont really need to warm them as long as they are body temp(hold them in your hand). Make sure you have a SHARP blade thats key. Hope that helps:)

Oops. I make canes for other things hence unbaked. Never thought about needing to bake the slices/cane before putting on the nail and that baking the slices on the nail might be a bit impractical. Feel a right idiot now. :)

You can use raw canes, but she was asking how to slice baked canes:)

Still waiting for the video, once its done I will post it, be gentle everyone its the first one I have ever made. Have you noticed how awful your voice sounds when you hear yourself:lol::lol:
