sorry guys this but this might be abit of a long one.
i did my sister in-laws friends nails on saturday and i have just a a message to say one has chipped a nail but while i fix hers can i look at her friends as she seems to have a lot of "growth" as she called it,im thinking its just where her nails have grown but i phoned her to ask what exactly the problem was and she used the words "bubbles, light and dark in colour and peeling" and it sounds like its on most of them, i know without seeing them we cant say exactly but it sounds to me like its lifting.?
i know what it is as ive had a few clients that have had it before but ive also had clients that havent had any at all.
i just wondered how i should go about fixing the problem should i fix this free of charge? she said that it hasnt happened before when she had her nails done elsewhere.
i know lifting can be caused by the nail prep not being thorough enough and by mix ratio but are there any other reasons such as the cold weather the natural oils in the nail or is this problem just down to me?
thanks for any help i really appreciate it.xx

If it does turn out to be lifting when you see them, then if it has happened before a week is out, then I think you will have to do them gratis and take responsibility for what has happened! Nails shouldn't lift in a week. But you will have to see them and judge whether or not she has been interfering with them in any way. Is she a biter? I never guarantee nails on a biter because I don't trust them once they are out of my sight  Did you make the nails too long (a common fault) for the client? Is she picking around the edges (another thing nail biters do). You'll have to let us know.

As long as the nails were not oily before you applied the product then natural oils in the plate won't be a problem. The cold weather should not affect the enhancements once they are on. She should be using oil every day to keep the product moisturized.

thanks for your reply,no shes not a nail biter so perhaps it is down to my prep,is there anything else i can do to help prevent this on her other than using cuticle remover, removing whats left on the nail and priming?
i did suggest about cuticle oil but she said she mosturises twice a day although im not sure if thats true or not.
thanks again and merry xmas.xx

With complete prep the nails should not be lifting so I would reprep and refill ... I wouldn't do a whole new set.

i just dont understand why this has happended as i prep the same way.some of my clients have had it but thats normally when they are 2 or more weeks old and they look abit trashed ifkwim but most dont have any at all.xx

well cuticle it transparent and hard to see and some people have shed loads of it and you need to use the remover more than once in that case. I can usually 'feel' it with my metal pushy and I just keep going until I can't feel it any more.

If in doubt you can take a soft file and try to get the last bit off that way but be really careful in that soft area of the nail plate if you are filing.

thanks you so much i will try that when she comes back.hopefully it will solve the problem.x

Renenber that cuticle is deposited on the nail in layers. It is very easy to remove a layer and think you got it all when in fact there are still more layers present. The first time you prep someones nails you need to take your time to get it all away. After that it is easier the next time as there is not so much.

well shes been and they werent as bad as i was expecting which was nice.
she did have lifting on a few but not all of them so i re did those ones and made sure there was not cuticle left on the nail plate and made sure that when i applied the l&p that i really sealed it to the nail so hopefully that will sort it but if it doesnt then i will be baffled as to what is causing it.x

Fingers crossed you found the problem.
