Just a sign of a non professional who has no concept how the hair industry truly runs.

Yes Naturalnails... This is an issue for government. Regulations and licensure need to be set in place. But Salon geek is a forum for voicing such opinions. And standing up for our profession!

Im new to this forum and gobsmacked at what lm reading. All these bitchy comments and haterid towards extensionists. Just cause we chose to train in extensions not the full hairdresseing why arnt we professionals. We arnt trying to pass off as a hairdressers. We are hair extensionist who specialise in extensions. ( im also a qualified wigmaker, hair piece and theatrical facial hair ). I hate hairdresing doing colouring, shampo n sets, ful cutting, highlites etc but love doing extensions so whats wrong with that. In hairdressing training your not trained in extensions so not qualified to do them. But we dont moan and criticise hairdressers when they try doing extensions and ask for advise. Yes extension courses are only short but cause ur only learning one skill so its not as in depth. But this dosnt make us unprofessional. Yes there ar dodgy courses that dont train people properly. Or people watch you tube videos on how to fit extensions then think they are good enough to start fitting extensions. These people give us pros a bad name. I do think there should be a forum just for extensions so it dont flood the hair forum. As every other thread is about extensions. You say that if we are trained we should already know what to do. We all face chalenges in every profession and some times need advice or support over issues. This dosnt mean we are unprofessional. I do think all this bitchyness needs to stop as its unprofessional and childish. We should be supporting one another and giving constructive advice. Why dosnt the moderator or admin take off any threads that are bitching? Rite rant over.
Nice start to my membership

We shouldnt have to moderate peoples "bitchiness". Normal human beings should actually be able to moderate their own behaviour and as normal human beings we should know what is considered to be acceptable public behaviour, dont you think?

If we removed every single unacceptable behaviour then some people would not be seen in their true light. We are not here to moderate behaviour unless it gets way out of hand.

I'm a qualified wig maker too, city and guilds wig making (distinction) to be precise, and I'm also a hairdresser and qualified extensionist. I promise you that the skills we learn as wig makers are a world away from working on a live person!!! We can't really liken working on a block to working on a real head now can we?

maybe its me but i think alot of spoonfeeding been going on recently. for instance lazyness of not doing a search, which supplier to go with, whats the cheapest. what should i charge. hmmm

I havent got a problem with anyone that does extensions. But from my own professional opinion and the work i have seen; i dont think your can colour match hair with a box dye. I dont think you can get a decent style if you've not blended the hair in.... and frankly think they person fitting it in should be able to do it- not because they dont want to become a "proper hairdresser" but because its been covered in depth- and they actually have a basic understanding. pure utter lazyness.... xoxo

Extensions are now covered in NVQ 3 hairdressing. I've just completed mine. x

A girl on my facebook as done ONE gelish nail polish application class and sudddenly she thinks she is a nail tech...

I dont have to say anything becuase her work shows for herself, it not shoddy, but she uses cheap products, she has stopped posting pics up or silly status's about being 'really busy' becuase she's not.

And quite frankly - I dont care. Let her make herself look silly when I can answer questions she cannot becuase she doesnt have the knowlegdge she thinks she has after one class that lasted a maximum of 3 hours.

I get so annoyed reading really patronising comments/answers from some users which are really hurtful and rude and no help to the asker in the first place and thats why we are all here is to help each other out.

So what if the forums are full of extentionist's then maybe they should have their own forum. I have used SG for about two years now and have seen users come and go - the same questions get asked - I have learnt some really good tips here and always have a read in case someone - a newbie to the industry - needs help in any way. I dont attack them. But have read a few times that some poor girl has just qualified and with her first set of nails she needs reassurance! But instead she is asked - where did you train?!?!?! are you even proffesional???!?!'

What is the actual point of Salon Geek - why did any of you sign up in the first place? An extra FREE point of contact to perfect your profession - not somewhere to thrash it out about who knows the most about hairdressing or extensions.

Another side of me thinks any person REGARDLESS of what course they first took, then decided to do, train in, learn, invest time, money and passion deserves the same treatment as someone who has done 5 or 6 courses.

At the end of the day we are all trying to be successful in the industry so just be nice to each other eh?

Sorry, but that's like comparing a doctor and a first aider in my opinion.

I've trained in Nails and Hairdressing and there's a world of difference between the two professions besides the amount of time it takes to become a skilled practitioner.

I have a c&g distinction in wig making aswell. Ive worked at one of the best hair and wig company in the world and was trained the anatomy of hair, colour match, and make wigs by hand, blend wigs and extensions. I dont no what you mean bout box dyes. I dont colour hair as im not trained in that. If a client wants colour i send them to a hairdresser.I no working on a wig is diff to a real person thats why i trained in extensions and learnt to colour match using a mix of shades and tip them. Also trained in blending and styling. if people wana act like children in a playground then we do need moderators. I mean what was the point of this thread ? Was it for advice? Inform people? No it was to bad mouth other members and instult people. Ive worked hard to get where i am and im certainly not lazy.

Here are just a few of the reasons for such posts (as my own.) Those of us who are qualified professionals have spent countless hours, years and vast amounts of money learning and perfecting what we do. There is nothing more insulting to us and our professions than general public, or fakes claiming professional status, on here fishing for our hard earned professional knowledge. It goes to show major disrespect for the profession to think you can perform the services we do, without he proper knowledge. Math, science, chemistry, geometry, anatomy, physiology and even physics are ALL a part of our everyday operation. We worked incredibly hard to hone our skills. I am just thankful that here in he US I am protected by my license issued by a profession regulating sector of government. I feel deeply for my UK Cohorts, who have to have he best in education, but to have it trampled on by non qualified fakes. If it were a true "passion" you were following, you would seek proper education and pay your dues as the rest of us did, and stock mocking our incredibly intricate profession.

Come on.. we're hairdressers. Not scientists or surgeons! We're not saving peoples lives everyday, some people need to come off their high horse because you never stop learning as a hairdresser. Asking questions is a sign of intelligence and passion, no one should feel like they can't ask questions on here especially if they are at the beginning of their hairdressing career!

Well said. There is so much nastiness and bitchiness on this forum.

I look on the nail forum regular as its something I'd like to train in and something I'm debating about doing, and its nice to see what people can do and for me to learn what's good and what's not. But most of the people on there seem to be nice and don't seem to have the same issues and posting threads such as this.

I get that hairdressers are upset over people doing a 1 day course, I myself have done one not being a hairdresser. I don't deem myself as a hair professional but an extensionist. I realise hairdressers train for years in what they do, but why wouldn't someone who can see there are these courses out there do it if its what they want? I would personally love to re-train as a hairdresser but at 28 and starting a family with a house is not something I can do.

There is no need to be nasty to anyone on this forum, I see it time and time again. I've seen hairdressers rip chunks out of people for not being hairdressers but doing 1 day courses and I've seen people who have done 1 day courses rip pieces out of hairdressers for pulling them up on that.

I've spent hours reading and researching what I do and I don't dispute the fact I probably only know a minuet fraction of what most hairdressers know but that doesn't mean I don't want to learn as much as I possibly can to be the best I can..

I agree there should be a separate forum for people like me. But there isn't. Its childish, rude and generally out of order on both sides to carry on with each other as is being done at the moment.

All this talk of qualification, and yet only 3 people on this thread have actually filled that information out on their profiles.
One of the reasons Samuel went to all the bother to get us this facility was that members wanted to be able to see who was a qualified Hairdresser and who were primarily Extensionists.

If people filled out their profiles properly with qualifications and work experience, then there would be no need for any interrogations on threads ;)

Adamlea87 though has hit the nail on the head, if you are not interested in a threads topic, then just don't read it.
Also if you don't have the appropriate amount of time to devote to your post to keep it constructive and informative, then don't post it.

I did a one day course and do not call myself a hair pro but an extensionist. I also agree with the nail board being a much friendlier place.

I've not read through all the thread yet I'll leave it to late night reading....I've done highlights, allover colour cut and blow...highlights/lowlights cut and blow ...full head of extensions another two sets of highlights cut and blows today....I am an hard working professional that needs a back massage lol

I'm not criticizing people for asking questions. I am irritated that it is legal for anyone to perform services as a "professional" without the education behind them. And FYI, the history of the Hairdresser is the same as the Doctor. Considering that the original Hairdressers were Doctors! Hence our strict safety and sanitation guidelines. These unqualified professionals are working without proper safety and sanitation guidelines. Passing on diseases... Causing injury to people. Because they are uneducated, and do not understand the basics of hairdressing.

So if you can do all that then why not update your profile to show you are qualified to do all that :)

Same goes for everyone else :wink2:

But half of them are not just asking about fitting!
There asking about colouring and cutting them witch there not trained to do!
That's what I get annoyed with! Just saying 😁

I've no idea how too, doesn't show on my phone, it did on my old geek but I forgot my name ...I know!, how did I manage that!
