hi, just wondered if anyone has any advice for me. i qualified in gels and acrylic 5 years ago but then due to my father being ill etc i never really built a client base and gave it up. i now want to get back into being a mobile nail technician (which is what i wanted to do 5 years ago) i thought i would advertise a really low cost for a full set as i am retraining, has anyone got any ideas where the best place to advertise for this is? also have lost my certificate so why i am waiting for a copy of it would it be ok to do my re-training and would i need any insurance? thank you so much!

First off I would not start out by offering low cost full sets.

I would not start out at all until I felt my work was good enough to ask full price for a full set. The clients you get will expect competent nails that look good at the end of the service.

2nd I would not pay for any advertising. Place your cards with everyone you meet and aske friends and family to help you out by handing them to their friends and business acquaintences. Put them up on bullitin boards where you know women go .. supermarket, gym etc. I used to stick mine up on the mirrors in every ladies loo I went into.

3rd Depends on the company you are training with. I know CND would not give you further training without seeing your certificate.

Finally .. yes you will need insurance. It would be very irresponnsible as well as foolish to perform a tratment on someones body and not have insurance.

Good Luck.

If you did your training 5 years ago you will have to re-do your health and safety as it needs renewing ever 3 years.

I did not know this! (though thinking about it, I think I recall something about it)

does health & safety cross over between the religions? i.e. I did it when I did my VTCT certificates in makeup, nails, etc. in 2004. I've done and passed it this year in hairdressing. Does my hairdressing one cover me for the mobile makeup/nails/waxing?

Yes it does as there where girls on my nails course that had done hairdressing and other things and they had done their h&s, so didn't need to do it again. Hope this helps.

thanks very much that is really useful, i did my training abroad and so there was no health and safety certificate needed there so really was useful to know that - will check it out! x

BIG grin:green:

Thanks for that:hug: was worried there for a while.

Right I have been checking up on this and This is what I have found out. If you do a college course and do your health and safety with them and don't intend to do any more courses with them then you don't need to do your H&S again. But if you do another nails, beauty course then you have to renew your health and safety every three years. It is a VTCT/college thing. I hope that this helps.

so you dont have to re do your health and safety every 3 years if you dont do another course. i qualified 10 years ago in beauty and i am doing my hairdressing course in september. where do i stand . never heard of this before sorry.

You may need to redo your health and safety, your best bet is to get in contact with your college and ask them. Hope this helps.

ok i will check thank you

Same here, trained in Norway, I didn't know anything about this or if I need to do anything before I would start work?

Hi there
I wouldn't start off with a low charge for doing nails because you will find it difficult to increase your prices and you could end up loosing friends family etc and remember you need to have confidence to be able to perform nail art on people because you could also ruin your good name if anything goes wrong well, good luck and practice to build your confidence I hope you are up and running soon
