I have just buffed off my IBD builder gel and it has taken me over an hour!! Surely it shouldnt take this long? (I was previously ill advised to soak them off in acetone which is why this is my first time buffing) I am using a 180 grit file (I actually ended up using about five!), should I get a rougher one? My nails are lovely now I've redone them but during the process, they felt like they were burning (I know I prob stayed in one place too long) and my cuticles are red and sore. What have I done wrong? I am taking a set of gel overlays off a client next week and as she is nearly 80, I'm not sure she's going to be happy with my buffing technique! Help!!!!!!:Scared:

Maybe they were a bit too thick... you shouldn't really need to do that much buffing for a rebalance.

Try clipping down the length first with a nail clippers, this should save a bit of time.

Be very careful when doing your clients nails.... I would start off with a 100 grit to remove the bulk and make sure to move on to a lower grit as you get closer to the natural nail... use a 240 at that stage and then a sponge buffer.

If your client wants a removal, you should be able to soak off the thin product left on the nail, although it is ok to leave a skinny layer on the nail as it's so important not to touch the natural nail as you can do a lot of damage.... as I'm sure you know already.
