Hello,

I'm trained in L&P and someone has left a message to ask if I would remove a set of gel nails for them and give them a manicure.

Can you remove these with Acetone as you would L&P? I have no idea really as I haven't trained in gels. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Nora

You need to find out if its buff or soak off....

Soak off removal would be the same as an L&P removal..

Buff off is a different kettle of fish....You need to be very careful how you go down the grades....

Hi... It depends what gel it is...some soak off and others don't.

I would buff up one nail and soak a cotton pad in acetone, place on the nail and wrap in foil....then start filing down the other nails a little....then go back to the soak nail and see if its starting to come away...if so wrap the others ...if not then continue to file it off.

You can often tell a soak off gel as it can have a slightly rubbery texture when filing it....when you tap the nail its doesn't have that hard snap sound like non soak off gels or L&P

If its a buff off gel then start with a 180 to reduce the bulk and go down to a 240 as you get nearer to the nail...its perfectly acceptable to leave a thin layer on the nail to safely grow out....it should be very thin and well buffed into the nail so that its not visible.

Ok thanks ladies, I've taken that on board and will go back to the client and ask which type of gel it is.

Thanks again,

Nora

It is doubtfull that the client would know the difference unless they can contact the tech that applied the gel.
What a shame she didn't advise her client on removal during her appointment.

Remember to charge for the removal as well as the manicure
