Hi guys,

I may have the possibility of renting space in a small hair salon. One hairdresser only but she wants someone to do manicures, pedicures and eventually nail extensions.

Can anyone let me know what percentage I should expect to pay her for this?

Can't wait to hear from you.

I never like percentage deals ... it always ends in tears!
What looks a good deal when you are starting up breeds allot of dissatisfaction when you are doing well.

If you can, go for a straight for a weekly rent.
Ask the salon to let you do a 3 month trial starting at a low rent for the first month and moving up over 3 months to the rent you have agreed on . Plus a get out clause for each of you if things do not work out at the end of 3 months.

You buy the products, book your own appointments. They supply coffee and do your laundry and include you in any promotional advertising.

hi ya i am inclined to agree with geeg (as always ) when i first started renting space in a salon i started at £3 ph for a few months which then rose to £5 ph i had the advantage though that i swapped some of my free time for covering reception for the lady who's salon it was therefore nine times out of ten i took home everything i earnt :green: this was around 2 years ago now and im not sure as to rates for rent now adays and if they have changed much but i would definatly try it out on a trail basis first though! best of luck! x

Hi, I totally agree with this too,
percentages sound like a good idea at first but I dont care for them much either
it never ends up the way you expect it too,
its best to build up your own little business  good luck

Whatever you decide please make sure you get a contract. Dont be fooled by people that SEEM very nice....business can sometimes do very strange things to change a person and I wouldnt like you to get the old backside bitten like I did when I first started out

This is exactly what I do and it works a treat!
I supply all my own products and as Geeg says my laundry and coffee/ tea and promotional advertising is included.
At my salon they have jouniors who take some bookings but most of the time I have my own diary by my desk and then I transfer them into the main salon diary so nobody double books me.
I started this in december 2007 and it was the best thing I ever did. I wish you the best of luck!!

Thanks for that everyone. Really appreciate the advice.
