I have been asked to colour a clients, hair she only about 50 and looks fantastic but she started going grey some years ago and now is about 90%. She only wants a semi, about a 6, and has made me swear to her that she wont be left with a root ( demarcation ) problem. Now I usually use dia colours but I'm not sure how this would work on such alot of grey also I think that you do get a build up and she might end up with the dreaded root line. Has anyone got any suggestions ??? please !

I think u may end up with a slightly translucent result colour cos of the amount of grey , make sure u add some tone in there aswell not just a 6 as it wil come out quite flat.
Over time dia colours do tend to build up so u do have to be carful about not applying to the whole head each time just do the roots and then pull through for the last 5-10 mins.
U can always do a test piece cos grey hair can be resistant.
Maybe u could suggest lo lites instead if she doesnt want a root line.

Hi lilly , unfortunately you may not be able to make her any promises especially if she wants her 90% white hair covered all over with a level six
as this really is quite dark and the darker she goes the greater the demarcation line will be, plus she is nearly white!
so a global permanent level six may be an awfully big shock for her

but if she still wants an all over Global colour
she would be far better going lighter it won't be such a shock and she wont see the roots nearly as much :)

I have seen Andrew Barton perform a beautiful global pearly light biege colour on 90% white hair which is specially made for this type of request,
it sort of gives a nice translucent hint of colour very close to a natural look
but I don't remember what it's called as I don't use Loreal much,
hopefully another geek might remember,

I would inform this client that if she wants all the white hair covered permanently ,
then you must advise her that you cannot do this task without some commitment from her ; and that slight roots may occur , plus you can only do the best you can to help her disguise them,

(you can't perform miracles  lol)

what about few woven low lights in base sevens ?

or a base natural gold 7 and a few scattered highlights may be another option ?

ideally though lilly .... she would have go toward a lighter level to avoid roots , but even using the mildest of colours once it's mixed with peroxide there will always be a slight line of demarcation,
that is unless you just use a temporary colour all over such as Wella colour fresh , see link below

WELLA COLOR FRESH LIGHT NATURAL GOLD BLONDE 8.03 (75ML)

or perhaps a simple coloured mousse,

hope that made sense  minky

I completely agree , and you dont know if the grey will cover with a semi or grab odd tones , id probably lo-lite it

Thanks for your replys. Its definatly only going to be a semi, I've been thinking :eek::eek: I think I'l go for something like a colour fresh, I dont think she'd mind a more transparent colour just to start her off.

Great idea Minky, I'm definatly going to get a coloured mousse, she can get an idea of wether she's going to like being another colour. Thank you x
