Hi

I have a question about my daughter.

She is only 9 but my family seem to mature early  and she is beginning to develop. Her skin is starting to form black heads and a few spots.

Like me she has very sensitive skin, what is the best skin care regime for her? I am an avid Decleor user, should I share or is there something more appropriate?

Many thanks
xx

I dont use decleor in the salon (MD formulations for me, but tbh wouldnt be happy using that on 9 year old), so haven't had their training.

Maybe ask your decleor therapist what they think? Even if she (he) is not sure, they could at least ask the company direct - that way your daughter could maybe use some of your products?

Hth.

ps At 9, it could possibly be that she will be starting her periods soon, and her skin may calm down once she has (or of course get even worse:irked:).

Im sure Dermologica do a teenage range?

Im sure Dermologica do a teenage range?

Yes its called 'Clean Start'

It is aimed at teenagers with spots and most (if not all) of the the products contain salicylic acid.
Personally Id say it will be far too much for a 9 year old unless she has an abundance of spots.

How about something like Seaweed or Tea tree facial washes from The Body Shop? Theyre pretty gentle but effective and affordable too, esp whilst you get her skin balanced. They do little starter kits which may be nice for her.

Liz Earle worked for me, Dermalogica's clean start works fanastic but I wouldn't recommend it for a few blackheads and also it is quite harsh so might irritate sensitised skin.

Liz Earle is a great start, it's all natural, it's gentle, it's effective :)

My daughter is 7 (8 in Jan) and I have had her using Liz Earle for the past couple of months. She was starting to get some little spots around her nose and forehead...the skincare worked really well, the hardest thing is getting her to remember to do it twice a day.

It seems our kids do appear to be maturing earlier....

Hope this helps,

Sarah x

Thanks everyone. I am nail Geek but knew I could get great advice here :)

I used to use Liz Earle and did like it. Her skin only has a couple of spots and black heads but I really suffered as a teenager and will do all I can to stop her having the same issues!

Will try Tea Tree first and see how I go from there.

Hi Geek,

I am a dermalogica skincare specialist and my daughter is 10 and she and all of her friends, cousins, etc are using the clean start range. It contains salicylic acid but it is in a mild form. It is designed for skin that has begun to change i.e teenage spotty, pimply skin or any skin type that has excessive oil production. It can be used on sensitive skins, but it doesn't always suit everyone - so get some samples first from a local distributor.

The main things about spots and excessive oil on the skin is to keep it clean so

cleanse with the "wash off" twice a day,
use the "all over clear", toner - (contains Licorice and burdock - hydrate, calm and soothe the skin).
"Ready set scrub" - can be used 3 - 5 times per week. 7
"Bedtime for Breakouts" - contains salicylic acid to help unclog impactions and prevent breakouts.
"hit the spot" - sulfur stops breakout causing bacteria
"welcome Matte" - is a mattifying cleanser with an SPF 15.

It may seem like alot but its a cleanser, toner, bedtime treatment, spot treatment and moisturier. You can get a kit that will contain 4 -6 weeks of treatment to try it out. Over in ireland the kit is xx euros and the individual larger sizes are around xx euros each.

But definately worth a go.:Grope:

As for blackheads if she uses the cleanstart, maybe after a shower or steaming her face she could attempt to extract them but never on a cold face and with the cleanstart system once cleared they should be kept at bay.

Good luck!

I tried Body Shop tea tree and it seems like me she is allergic to tea tree! Will defo try this kit.

I have also moved to Dermologica with amazing results!:Love::Love:

hiya,

ive had the md formulations training and as they use all natural ingredients, they said it is perfectly fine to use at any age. I would not have any second doubts using it on my child! the earlier i can get them using it the better. it may tingle slightly when she first starts to use it but your skin will soon get used to it. i used to have terrible acne, and it has completely cleared this up! maybe use the skin wash for sensitive skin though as that has added licquorice and camomile to help soothe and calm. i cannot recommend it enough tbh. i think all this rubbish they have like clean and clear etc is just that - rubbish, because if they had the "perfect" acne collection, they wouldnt bring out a new product every 5 minutes! md hasnt changed in years, which means it's good! dont throw ur money down the drain, invest in something a little more pricey but that does the job properly! and lasts forever too, my skin wash lasts around 3-4 months, my creams about 3 months and some products even longer! best to see a salon who stock md formulations to get a proper skin care routine set out for her. otherwise ask on here of what to buy etc and when to add in new products :). prevention is better than cure! xx

As you are an avid Decleor user you could ask about the recently re-formulated Aroma-Purete range. The real stand out in the range, besides the fab moisturising fluid with encapsulated zinc and re-formulated Ylang Ylang serum, is the 2-in-1 mask and scrub. It goes on as a clay mask and after 10 minutes you emulsify it with water and it resurfaces as a cleansing scrub; it is to die for!

Not sure which range of the above you are referring to, but just to clarify for others, the Decleor one doesn't contain salicylic acid.
