Hi all, its been suggested to me by various people that they would be interested in coming to a small group demo and practice for makeup if ever i decided to hold one. Ive given a little presentation at a women only event a while ago, just discussing day to eve makeup but have never done something like this. One of my main queries is, would i have to have a supply of makeup for people to practice with if so can you advise what i would need etc If anybody has done something similar would you mind dropping me a line with some guidelines and ideas? I thought about incorporating "bring along your makeup bag" aswell just to go through it with them - is that a good idea?. Hope you can help - thanks

A make-up bag makeover! Excellent idea! You can give people tips on new products they might wish to try and teach them new tricks with the stuff they've got.

My friends love me doing their make-up because I've got a huge pro kit, but they all feel a bit deflated that they don't have thousands of ££££s of make-up too! I always have a root around in their make-up bags. Very often people just get into a make-up rut, or buy products and don't really know how to use them to full effect. They'll love your tips! x

Hi
I did thid last year and the theme was to bring your own make-up bag and a mirror. I provided cotton wool, cotton buds, tissues and dressed the tables to look attractive.
I did a demo using Bare Escentuals mineral Make-up as it was still quite new and did a more mature model (my mum!) to show how well it went on.
Then had a break - winw and O.J & nibbles.
After i did a day to evening look using 5 products for day and than vamped it up for evening.
Everyone who came really enjoyed it and I did get some business for a wedding, special occasion and for other treatments i offered.

TIP! check how much it will cost to host if using a hall as i did and what you'll spend on tissues, decs etc and then work out how to cover your costs with how many tickets etc.

I did mine in summer hols as I have a full time job in term time BUT many people were away so couldn't come. I just covered my costs and got more business but didn;t make any money on the night! Learn from my mistakes LOL!
Good luck!

Have hosted a few events like this at our salon, and it works really well. We use it more as a marketing tool to get current clients to introduce new clients to the salon, and just charge £5 a head to cover costs of refreshments.
We use the concept 'step-by-step' and take 2 or 3 ladies at a time through the look of their choice eg. smokey eyes, perfect eyeliner etc. It has to be audience participation, so that they actually learn the technique (you do one eye, they do the other)
At the same time, we usually have some hairstylists demonstrating hair-ups at home, and we get different local practitioners in each time to do demonstrations (eg. in the past we have had beauticians offering mini skin analysis sessions, botox demos, acunpuncture demos etc.. we try and make it different each time, and make a bit of an evening of it.
It's an excellent opportunity to sell retail products as well.
Blu x
