Hi all, Happy New Year!

I sprayed a regular client last week who ended up having really strange dark patches on her thumb and index finger on one hand. Her other hand was perfect.

I went back to her the next day when she called to say this had happened. We spoke about her pre-care, how often she moisturises, if she was aware of leaning on her hand during sleep (I thought maybe the solution could transfer or make a dark patch??). She explained to me that she doesn't moisturise as often as she knows she should but says she always follows my pre-care/after-care instructions. She gets a tan from me about 3 times a month. I explained about skin PH/hormones changing etc which can cause patches but i'm really not sure that has anything to do with it as it was just this one area and never happened before.

We sorted it out with a gentle rub with lemon juice and got her back to normal but i'm worried as i'm tanning her next week again and I really don't want the same thing happening. I've told her to pay special attention to the area when exfoliating and moisturising also.

Just wondering if there is anything I could do before spraying her next week to prevent this happening. I wouldn't like to just assume that this is a one off.

Any ideas would be great and sorry for such a long post.

To implement an action to prevent this from happening in the future requires an understanding of what went wrong this time.

I suspect that this is a case simply of the customer touching herself during sleep or at some point after being spray tanned.....maybe recommend she applies moisturiser to her hands before retiring to bed for the night

HTH

Did she sleep in her tan? I always advise clients to wear those little moisturising gloves to bed just in case they touch themselves. If they haven't got any gloves tell them to put some baggy socks over their hands to sleep in :)

Thanks for your replies.

Collin that's what i've been trying to work out with the client when I went back to visit her - What has actually caused this:irked: (it's driving me mad!) Apparently she did nothing different prior to the tan and I sprayed with the same due care and attention as always.

Also Angelina I did actually suggest gloves to her and I don't think she took me very seriously however I will stress this when I tan her next week. She always has her tan in the evenings due to work so does sleep with the tan on. She normally takes note of what I recommend as she does have a pair of long sleeved, long leg pjs just for spray tanning:).

Well, thanks again. I've got your suggestions in mind and hopefully they will prevent this from happening again. x

I used to always get dark patches on my thumb and index finger on my right hand until I worked out that since I am right handed when I use a pen on paper I get sort of callouses in those places.
Now that I type I do not have this problem any more.
