There's a small room in the salon where I put up the tent to do a spray tan. Now, this room has no windows but it's the only place that offers privacy. Actually, the salon doesn't have windows- only the front door, back door and one in the kitchen. We were advised to get an extractor fan when we took the course but my boss hasn't bought one and seems reluctant to??

I've suggested, then asked and am now nagging that we NEED one. It gets MAJORLY misty and unbearable and even with a mask on my throat still kills me! I can't imagine how the client feels especially when I have to leave them in there a bit longer to dry off! I love the spray tanning and it's doing really well at the moment especially with all the proms and weddings coming up but I can't continue to work in those conditions.

How much are extractor fans roughly? And is it still possible to have one without windows in the room?

Also, what's worse... without something to take all the excess spray out of the booth it pools at the bottom!! Thank god for sticky feet and couch roll!

What do you suggest I do? Nag some more???

Hi Viva

I'm no expert and haven't been tanning that long but i never have any mist and nothing in the bottom of my tent. Would turning your gun down a tad help any?

I don't get much pooling at the bottom. Well none really lol but when we didn't have the sticky feet you got mega brown feet! I check the gun before I begin spraying to get the right consistency so I'm not sure why it gets so misty. I gather it's just from the fact we have NOTHING clearing the air? :S

If its a really small room with no ventilation, it perhaps would be wise to get an extractor.

I dont use sticky feet just couch roll and I only get a fine colouring of spray on the roll. I did a tanning party for eight recently and it still wasn't misty and that was in a small room. I don't even wear a mask! Maybe I should lo l:eek:

How much solution do you use per person?

If the room has no windows what so ever , they should have an extractor fan? - the prices vary best to have a look about and compare a few first mention to your boss that you need an extractor fan !

Also turning your gun down may help as should be extremly mist from a tan?

xxx

My salon had no windows in the treatment room and had no problems, i did however have mist etc when i started out. I solved this by spraying closer and turning the nozzle down, and costs less too!!
Are you using HVLP or an airbrush? x

I use St Tropez and I use an hairbrush. I use one cup full (if you know what I mean!) per person. I've tried turning the mist down and it doesn't make a difference... besides I want enough to come out to tan! I guess I'll just have to beg for an extractor lol :(

hahah I don't use a hairbrush... airbrush!

LMAO that made my day!!!, you get a lot more overspray from an airbrush, so not much you can do with that hun!!! your boss has a duty of care to protect you so i would push for an extractor you can't keep working in those conditions!!!
Either that or get them to invest in HVLP mine cost less than my extractor did and saved me money in the long run!! xx Good luck chick

Iv always used St Tropez and used to have a small room with no ventilation and an airbrush so I know exactly what you mean about the room filling up.I bought an extractor unit and it made it a bit better but didn't completely espesially when doin a few in a row. Iv since moved to a larger building and my spray tan room luckily has a built in extractor fan andiv switched to a hvlp machine and find this loads better as virtually no over spray even without using the extractor.
I think you are best off investing in a new hvlp machine as there is not a massive price difference between that and the extractor and also you can do tans a lot quicker and easier.

I'll definately work on it- thanks for all the advice! I'll let you know where I end up! :D
