Hi Geeks,

I recently did some training with st tropez (just creame and mouse application). before being let loose on paying clients i had a practice on my cousin who has very pale skin and when i spoke to her today to see how it turned out after she showed she said it was nice but not as dark as she had hoped. i didnt want to 'double dip' as i didnt want it to look unnatural as she doesnt naturally have that skin tone but im just wondering if i did everything right and if maybe its just the natural tone of her skin? i exfoliated, moistuurised the dry bits and gently buffed the skin after. has anyone got any extra tips for me as its a treatment i really like doing and i want to master it!!!

thanks

Did you dilute the tan too much with the moisturiser?

i dont think so, i diluted the lotion with the moisturiser for the face, inside of arms, hands and feet (hands and feet i added moisturiser to excess creame already on my hands) as i was shown. i thought if anything i hadnt diluted the lotion enough on the face.

Did you place it onto the skin as opposed to rubbing it on until the colour changed slightly?

I used to wait 10 mins before buffing at the end

She was maybe just expecting to look darker than she went, was she pale?

x

i was very careful not to rub in likle a moisturiser and just emulsified it on the skin so it went like a pale khaki green colour. she is very fair - celtic skin, blue eys etc. i havent actually seen it so maybe she is expecting something a bit more. she used fake bake on herself and i have sometimes found this to be quite orange. i had the tan myself and loved it. i.ve never been a fan of fake tans myself but i am now converted!!!

Yeah sounds like her expectations were to be darker, if she has tan lines where her pants were then you have done all you can

I only mixed the tan with the moisturiser of the face, inside arms, feet and hands x

You could do a top up, but not free of charge x

I have recently trained with st tropez and have noticed to get a proper tan that is noticable you would need to double dip. I've had the cream application and am naturally quite dark skinned, it gave me a glow but didn't come out as dark as I'd of wanted. However I noticed it came out even less so on people with paler skins. If I were you I wouldn't worry too much hun, to me it sounds like you're doing everything correctly. I wouldf definitely double dip if it wasn't as dark as required. Hth x

I found emulsifying it made it go creamy cappuccino brown not greeny maybe the solution is old? I'm pale and I found it looked a bit orangey on me but a medium shade.

the solution is brand new so i dont think its that yeah it was like a creamy browny green colour i think next time i will double dip and see what that looks like

Hi, St Tropez works with the clients skin, so the darker you are the tan will go darker, pale skin always usually just gets more of a glow. did she leave it on for 4 hours or more before taking a shower? my regular tanning clients sleep in their St Tropez and shower in the morning as it has more time to take and some people go darker doing it this way. I find that explaining to them before they have the tan done that eveyone goes a different colour, the more you do you will get used to knowing what different skin tones go like so you can advise them before the treatment. "Keep tanning girl" I love using StTropez its fab and my clients love it too :)

could someone explain double dipping please?????
the not very geeky tan girl wants to learn the lingo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol double dipping is the phrase that st tropez use which will give a deeper tan. It means that you will apply the tan on day 1, wash it off after the developing time and then apply again and let develop.

when we did the cream st tropez training at college we were all disapointed the next day with how light it actually was...maybe thats just how it is?

Everyone is different in how dark they go,it's all to do with the proteins in the skin reacting with the DHA in the tan,we are all different the same as perfumes smell differently on one than another.

Did your client leave her tan on for the maximum time before rinsing off? St Tropez continues to develope for up to 10 hrs,so I would suggest that the client either leaves on all night for the best results or all day if done in the morning.
I was never taught anything about,'double dipping',when I did my training(but it was a long time ago now) ,however we were advised to re apply the lotion after 24 hrs should the client be unhappy with depth of colour following application. I have never really had any problems with clients not being dark enough most are worried about being too dark:green:.St Tropez should NEVER look orange though,it has a pigment added to it to prevent this so this surprised me.

Everything you have told us about your technique sounds fine so I dont think you need to reproach yourself at all.HTH

I use St Tropez cream on my clients, and have done for the past 7 years, and have never had anyone complain it was too light, and certainly never orange.

As Babsann has said, although they say leave it at least 4 hours, I find if they can leave it on for 10-12 hours (i.e. overnight) the colour goes a lot darker still.

she left it on for the night washed it later the next day so it was on for ages! i think because her skin is soo white it just looks like a natural glow. i really like the products especially the bronzing rocks (or is it blocks lol) as i like the idea of it being a treatment. i dont really feel that standing in your knickers freezing is very relaxing so i personally hope my clients dont mind paying a small bit extra for the st tropez treatment.

thanks everyone for your advice
