Hi everyone!!

I am looking at doing a nail technician course and was wondering what courses people could recommend?

Also whats best Acrylic,Gel etc..

I am in Hertfordshire,Watford so if anyone knows of any training days or courses around the area then let me know!

Also one more thing what do you think of the "home" courses, where they send you everything through post and you come out with a diploma?

Hi, welcome to the site.

I trained with Creative and can highly recommend their training, you can get details from Sweet Squared.

As for who and what is best...its a tough one to answer in a way that will help you as we all think what we use is the best...otherwise we wouldn't be using it :) so everyone just saying..."I use XYZ and its the best" will just result in a list of brands and not help you much.

Best thing you can do is try and whittle it down to a few...do this by searching some of the brands you are interested in on here and read up on what others say about it....and ring the brands for info to be sent to you.

I wouldn't be swayed on price in you can help it as quite often the cheaper the course the less in depth it is....if you type in home learning course on here you'll find plenty of threads about them. I personally couldn't learn this way...i have to be physically shown..but for some i guess it works...?? HTH

Thanks Angie!

Its just so hard because i couldnt afford to stop working to do it and i dont want to keep having time off for courses so the at home one sounds so appealing!

I found one where they mark it on coursework but to actually pass you have to do a week in a salon which may be good?

Hi, I trained in LCN and i was lucky enough that one of their trainers is based in my town centre so i got to train at a salon and they offered me a training job which was brill. That way my trainer was on site to watch me and help me progress. I know that can't be done in all cases but definatly research any trainers of the brands you are interested in that are close to you and also if the course includes a problem solving day. For example if when we were starting out and had a few problems, this day was set up to resolve them.

Good Luck, the nail world is a FAB world to be in :)

hi there I think Bagpuss has given good advice. I ruled out home learn as with something as hands on as nails I really think you need a hands on course.
I understand it can be difficult, I have 3 children and my hubby is often away with his work.
You mention that with one of the courses you are assessed during a week in a salon, which on the face of it sounds good......but, what if you get into a bad habit at homw, it's much harder to get out of it than to learn correctly from the outset.
Also, learning with someone like Creative, you attend on 5/6 days for your foundation course, these days are spread out....so you would not be taking any more time off work than with the home learn.....and you will be getting the best training and support from day 1
Just my thoughts. xx
