An in-depth look at the state of the UK beauty industry, carried out by The Guild, has revealed a number of interesting statistics.
According to the report, there has been a 3.8% growth in salon businesses during the recession. However the rise is attributed to micro businesses where therapists are home-based or mobile.
Similarly, the number of professional therapists rose by 12%, a surge that helps to balance the workforce evenly into those working full time and part time.
Good news was found elsewhere, as the price of the most popular salon treatments upped by 2%, although wages for newly qualified therapists fell to an average of £5.99 per hour, which is just 19 pence per hour more than the national minimum wage.
The full report is available now. It goes into further detail on today's most pressing issues, including whether last weeks Budget announcement that VAT is to rise to 20%, due to come into effect in January 2011, could affect them.
