Hi geeks just wondered if i could get a litte advise on stiletto nails. Although i dont get many clients asking for them i love doing them on myself, however ive noticed i always get cracks at the sides after a day or too and just wondered what im doing wrong. I generally do reverse application and the cracks are appearing where the free edge and nail bed meet i have tried applying more product in this area but end up with them looking thick . Please help !!!!

Well they will look thick (which all stilettos seem to do even when the so called experts do them). They have to be thick if they are going to be worn at such lengths and all the pressure is on the free edge ... You have to compensate for that pressure with more product in the corners or a higher apex down the centre. You can't have all that length without balance and that means more product and thicker nails.

This is happening because there is not enough support between free edge and the extended bed. That's why it cracks or free edge separates from the extended bed.

You need to apply thin underlay of clear from about half a natural nail to the desired length. Very thin, thinner than a tip. Then apply extended bed, then do your free edge. And then cap free edge to the middle of the extended bed with small amount of clear.

I hope this makes sense, I am not very good at explaining. Here us a very helpful video

YouTube - ???????????? ????? ??????.

hope this will help.

makes perfect sense thanks to you both video link was great

Personally I've never seen so much unnecessary work go into the making of something more ghastly looking in my life.

For the money they charge for these back home, and the time they are taking to make those - if i was doing it here i would have to work 24/7 to make the living.

Gigi, someone I know back home - wears gloves during their sleep so they wont damage themselves ot the husband :D

lol ... well I do believe that your countrymen do the most beautiful work, but I don't think these are a good example of that.

I won"t argue) :wink2:

well i thought it was beautiful, completely unwearable but beautiful, i must say i like all sorts from a very neat french gel overlay, sometimes i have a colour gel overlay, the other day i had long square luminous pink sculpted acrylics. the time before that i tried stilettos on myself i loved them i extended my nail bed with cnd warm pink, then did silver glitter with silver discs in. but i got a lot of what you said cracks at the sides so it put me off doing them again, but got some tips from that video, so might try again. must say i get more comments when i have something wacky when i am out, its very good for business, but sometimes i just revert back to trimming all my nails down and french overlay them. p.s when i am minxed though that's the most comments i get.

As long as you do the clear thin base, as mentioned above, you should be fine. I have always done this and have never had any cracks at all.

Gigi, you know how much I love you and agree with you......but it can be done, ask Sandi, she seen mine when I was over, they weren't thick at all, I made sure my apex was all taken care of and I still have mine on 8 weeks down the line no lifting nor cracks. They don't look like monstrosities just stiletto nails, it's not something I wear all the time but something I can do and they last and there lies the difference.

If I was going about with thick nails my clients would run LOL, again for the OP, it is all in the eye and getting your apex correct, get that down pat and you are laughing, your clients may not want them but, they will be impressed.

I know it CAN be done .. it is just that I don't see it being done, and my God when they add 3 D stuff all over the top it's even worse. as you know my darling Fifi I'm so not into fake!! JMO
