Hi guys! This is my first time on here so hope someone can help iv been out of waxing etc for a few years and have recently got a new job in a salon where they do brazilian and hollywood waxes using strip wax. Iv found it works ok on previously waxed hair but have struggled with longer or thicker hair.....can any offer any advice??? Thanks xx

Are you trained in brazilian waxing? Just asking as you say you've been out of waxing for a few years.

I personally would only use hard wax for brazilians and hollywoods. You say strip wax works ok on previously waxed hair, that's not really good enough in my opinion... you need to have a solution that works on everyone who comes through the door!

Try to persuade the salon to invest in hard wax!

I have been doing waxing, using strip wax on brazillian and hollywoods for years.I was trained in hot wax but the salons I worked in didn't use it so I continued using strip wax.

I have never had an issue with warm wax only working on clients with previously waxed hair,I have done wax virgins and got perfect results(total hair removal,no problems)I think it's because the hair needs trimming that there is an issue here,if the hair is too long it will end up clogging in the hair, whereas you are getting good results on previously waxed hair because it is shorter. So it definately needs trimming.

Recently I did a new advanced training course(using non strip wax)because waxes had changed hugely from being very hot to not as hot as warm wax but designed to be a lot kinder on the skin.So I thought I would give it a go and I couldn't believe how there was no redness to speak of and how my model said it felt so much more comfortable.

I can get the same result with either non strip or strip though because I have been doing it for years and it's mainly imo down to experience and technique.

If the hair is too long I would suggest you either ask your client to trim it or you trim it prior to waxing.Really press the strip onto the wax, rubbing the strip hard back and forth, and you should get a good contact and then be able to remove all the hair.Keeping the skin taut all the time is crucial and prevents bruising(get the client to help with holding the skin)

Have you thought about speaking to the owner and asking if she would mind you using hot wax instead?(if you prefer it)It does take a lot longer than strip waxing but your treatment costs will reflect this so it shouldn;t be an issue.HTH a little

Well sometimes thats easier said than done many salons out there will not consider hot wax because of the extra expense and we know that there are many therapists out there happily using strip wax for intimate waxing. My daughter much prefers hot wax for intimate as i do, but works in a spa that only has clean and easy for everything so she HAS to use it and surprisingly manages very well.

The poster may not have any experience of hot wax which may be just as bad.

You will need to trim hair, oil and work in small patches, put on,very thin and take off straight away. The tighter the skin the better and if they are having a brazillian and leaving hair at the top if they have a thong on they can pull that up really tight you can run the wax along the edge of the thong whip off and they will get a nice line.

This is excellent advice. I totally agree. It is totally possible to do brazilians with strip wax on wax virigins aswell as veteran waxers.

Its all down to technique. I personally prefer to use hard wax as most of my clients find it more comfortable (some even request hard wax), however, i think its important to treat each client as an individual and depending on the hair growth (i.e. if they is hardly any there) then strip wax might be more appropriate.
If the OP hasn't done Intimate Waxing training then it might prove very useful to consider doing it.

HTH
