Sunbed electricity costs?

:green: Hi everyone hope you all have had a great christmas and are looking forward to an even better new year!
Would anyone be able to help me out with the average cost per month or week electricity it is to run 1 sunbed? :eek: Or does anyone know how to work this out?....it would be for an average 63 hours of opening a week in a salon. Sorry I know its a complicated query but if any of you sunbed shop owners have some sort of idea it would help me out alot. Thanks xxxxx
 
There should be a wattage on the sunbed, or available in the literature if you don't have it yet. This will give you the kw per hour (1000w = 1kw). Multiply this by the hours you will use in a month, and then times it by your cost in electricity per KW.

Now I am just pulling figures out of the air here, so don't use these, but it is an example of how to do it.


Let's say the bed uses 2500w. That is 2.5kw

Let's say you will use it 20 hours per week. That is 2.5kw x 20 hours= 50 kw used in a week.

Let's say your electricity is 20p a kw. That is 50kw x 20p = 1000p = £10.00

I've totally plucked figures out the air remember! (for ease of multiplying!) It is likely they will be very different.

Wow some very good numbers here and helpful advice.

Of course you will need to check with the supplier of the sunbed as to what the operating wattage is of the sunbed you are purchasing.
You can find out the kw per hr charge your electricity supplier is charging you simply by looking at your last electricity bill.
Once you have found this you can simply call your sunbed supplier and ask them to do the calculation for you.
of course electricity charges are a factor however it really is negligible as an operating cost.
The bigger cost by far to consider is the re lamping costs so do lots of research on what lamp types are fitted to the bed and ask for a quote for replacement lamps...on the more powerful beds these can be quiet expensive and needs including on operating cost budgeting.

Going to try and work it out- I wouldnt be buying the beds Id be renting/leasing them, far too much money for me to fork out if I bought them and with the leasing all the repairs are in with the price, not quite sure but think I heard someone say the re-tubing is aswell but going to find out everything before I put in my business plan but wanted to do an estimation first.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how many is a good idea when starting out? I want to start with the sunbeds and spraytanning to bring in some income while I do my nails/waxing as an additional service until Im competent -thinking of getting the powerful ones but not sure wether to start with a few or just go on and get a couple of each flat/stand....its going to take a good few months yet but hope to get something done for summer xxx

Well if you go for a profit share scheme with a supplier you remove all possible financial risks.....they fit the bed and undertake the re tubes and you split the profits/takings.
This is a good way to start but make sure you strike a good deal with your supplier and don't get tied up in a long term contract.
This is a good way of assessing the viability of this form of treatment for your salon...if all goes well you can then invest in purchasing your own machine and therefore increase revenue profits.

We have two lay down and one stand up,
The lay downs seem to be more popular where I am and depending on your space I think this is a good number to have.
Or you could maybe just get one of each to start and go from there!

You will find that the profit share split varies from company to company and is also very much dependant on how much the suppler can see he could get back from the deal...I.E. is your salon in a good spot,a busy one etc.
Also it is very much up to you to negotiate a deal...I would suggest you start at 60(you) /40% (Them) and take it from there...let them know there are plenty of companies out there that you can choose from etc etc.

There is also no real need for any formal long term contract...but make sure you put things in writing..I.E. what the profit share split it,who will re tube the sunbed,who will maintain it and who is responsible if anything goes wrong with the equipment or any injury caused etc.
