Hi

I've tanned a girl a couple of times and both times on part of her stomach there is about 10 or so little blotches.

You cant notice them on her skin with no tan but once the tan is on and dried in you can see them.

The first time i tanned her i thought i'd maybe had a bit of over spray with fake bake oil when spraying her elbows but this time we made sure it couldn't be the oil

its definately her skin but cant decide what it is.

Shes also been using the fake bake body polish and exfoliating a few times a week.

What could this be??

When you say blotches..are these darker or lighter than the surrounding tanned skin???

i have seen this before when the clients touch themselves after you have applied barrier cream.

 I want to say, why would they do something so da... but then think
never mind I know the answer to that one:confused:
Another thing it could be is skin that won't tan, forgotten the name, for this but I have it, I have a patch of skin on the back of my right thigh that has no, what ever that word is (mela something I think?) Anyway its a type of birthmark, so back when I was young and wore mini skirts I always had to blend in a bit of foundation to hide the untanned patch. But that was sun tan
don't know if this would be the same for spray tan?

It could well be Susie..we need to know if the blotches are dark in which case the solution has grabbed this area or if its not tanned then something else.
Incodentially with your white blotches when UV tanned are there..does the same apply with a spray tan?

Because I haven't bared my body for so long, I had completely forgotten about it and Kay has lost interest in tanning so until I get sorted and Louiser tans me and I her I have no idea:eek: will try to remember to let you know:lol:

hi susie

got my anatomy and physiology books out now!!!!! i think is it the melanin pigment in her skin

shes never been in the sun so doesnt know if that area will tan but she doesn't think it will. i've got a small circle on my back which isn't noticable, then when i'm on holiday and get a tan you can see the circle so it must be the same

the tan hasn't taken to these bits. there small blotches so you'd need to have them pointed out to you and look very close to notice them once the colour guide is washed off

It shouldn't be the melanin pigment as spray tan sits in the stratum cornea and does not come into contact with the cells of the melanin, hth

Susie when you have a spray tan you should have no white bits, it may be paler though than the rest of your body just like a scar would be, hth

Carron I'm interested that you've said you use the Fake Bake Oil to spray on your client's elbows. Do you mean the skin smoothie oil? I always understood this product should not be used in conjunction with spray tans (but can be used with the Fake Bake lotion tans). Sorry, this probably has nothing to do with your client's blotchiness!

hi sunspray

it was the smoothie oil i used. it came in my spray kit along with the mistifier.

when i was doing my practice tans i did one knee, elbow etc with the oil and the other with the mistifier to see if there was any difference with each product. there was no difference

Well I'll have to give 'em another ring then, because on more than one occasion I've been advised NOT to use skin smoothie oil either before, during or after spray tans (ie don't mix the oily product with a water-based spray tan). Hmmmmmm ....... xx

Hi Sunspray

I got a bit worried that I'd been using the oil for spray tans but I've just read the back of the original spray solution bottle. It says at step 2 - apply fake bake skin smoothie oil to feet, hands, elbows and knees. Helps tanning product to "smooth" over these difficult areast.

That could explain why it was in my order of spray tan kit. Strangely though theres no mention of the mistifier on the back of the bottle.

Hmmmmm Well I need to call Fake Bake tomorrow anyway, I'll try and speak to the girl who told me only a couple of weeks ago not to use Skin Smoothie Oil with spray tan solutions.

But your little experiment demonstrated that it worked with no adverse effects, didn't it? Might try it on myself too ....

I'll just feel a bit miffed that I've been avoiding the smoothie oil all these months when I could have been using the gorgeous stuff!

xx

I had a client like this only yesterday thing was she had been using tanning injections and this is how it had left her skin, no tan covered it it was as though there were a barrier on these areas the dr had told her she can got a skin infection and she had had antibotics but this was six months ago she had regular spray tans but it didnt cover them.

has she been using tanning injections in the past sometimes clients dont like to divulge this information

i have a few patches of skin where self application tan doesn't stick to and foundation!! it's just dry skin but not that u can exfoliate and it's gone takes a long long time of a routine of the right exfoliation and moisturiser

Carron...has this customer come back as yet for another tan application as it must be due ....before she does ask her to pay additional attention to exfoliating this area ...could it have simply been that she might have inadvertently left some splashes of something (oil moisturiser etc) on her skin the initial colour guide covered it but the DHA was blocked from entering the skin with a barrier.

It might be something completely simple

i<3nails&beauty i think you've got it. she's just put foundation on it and the exact same results as the tan :) how did you get rid of your dry bits?

she's had 2 tans so far. she's gone through two bottles of the fake bake body polish thats in the preparation kit and is also wanting to buy a big bottle. after the first tan she had the small blotches i made sure she concentrate on that area so that I knew it had been exfoliatied well. She loves the body polish and going by the rate she's gone through those bottles, she's exfoliated plenty

I sprayed a client and she was very happy with the colour that developed, except that her torso didnt develop as dark as the rest of her bod. She looked evenly sprayed, her torso hadnt seen any sun, the rest of her had a bit of a colour, has anyone ever sprayed a clients lighter parts in a higher DHA to try to even up tan. Do you think that lighter areas would go orange?. Please dont think me stupid, im just perplexed!:!:
