Hi, I did a spray tan party of 5 last night. 3 went for the 8 and 2 took the 10 as they said they wanted to go darker. They are mother and daughter and the mother says she normally goes really dark with a natural tan. After about 40 mins of spraying the daughter she was concerned that she was not developing as quickly as the others. I explained that some people take longer than others and it as too early to expect a result.

I then offered to respray her the next day if she wasn't dark enough, she is bridesmaid and her mother is groom's mother. She text me last night around 5 hours after the original tan and has asked she and her mother can be sprayed darker today.

Should I spray them with the 12% and tell them to wash it off a bit sooner, or go over them again with 20%. I get the impression they would want the 12 to feel they are getting their money's worth of you know what I mean. Problem is I have never used the 12 yet and am worried in case they are too orange for the wedding.

They are coming at 3.30 so any advice would be great.

p.s I did tell them that if they were dark enough by the morning just to text and cancel, but I have a feeling this won't happen!

Woops, I meant "go over them with the 10% not 20%," sorry!

Hi Sharon,
I realy think you should wait a full 24 hrs before running off and respraying anyone as their tans may have not fully developed yet.

Let time do its work and revisit the situation this evening and take it fro there

Hi, thanks for the advice.

She has since got back saying that it has not turned out as dark as she had hoped especially the face and would like to come at 3.30 to be resprayed. Unfortunately it doesn't suit any of us to wait until later and the wedding is tomorrow. At 3.30 it will be about 22 hours after the first spray anyway.

I will take a look and maybe just go over their faces with another 10% to be on the safe side. If they insist on the 12% I will have to advise that it is at their own risk?

Wish me luck! XX

Good luck

I'd go for the 10% too as they have already been sprayed once but you can only advise people at the end of the day  good luck

I would prob either go over her again at 8% or do a 10% then tell her to wash it off before it fully develops I think xx

Hi all, just to up-date you.

The bridesmaid client came back and although there was colour there, it seemed it was not dark enough for her. I re-sprayed her with the 12 and told her to keep an eye on her development and wash off sooner that 8 hrs. She text me around 6 hrs later to say it had turned out great, and that everyone loved her colour. Phew! If she comes back at a later date I will spray her with 12% from the start. I was just not very experienced at all with the 12 but I think it could be perfect for certain clients.

Thanks for all the support received!

Very well done Sharon..good to hear both you and your customer are now happy

Just as a general tip if you are uncertain when choosing which % to use on a client is best to go for a lighter shade than a darker one.

This way if the customer isnt quiet happy you can top up with a darker shade if needs be or on their next tan.

better to go a shade lighter if uncertain than a darker shade as if not to the customers liking they are more likly to be un happier with looking like an umpa lumpa than if the tan is not guiet as dark as they would have wished.

keep up the excellent work Sharon

Thank Collin

I usually start most clients on an 8 and tell them they can go darker next time, quite a few have in fact. Do you think the 12 shouldn't be offered until they have tried the 10 first?

I have just bought a bottle of 12 and had feared I may never use it but maybe I will now. I just need to do a few more 12's to see how they turn out I guess.

I seem to do quite a few 12%'s in fact that seems to be my best colour at the moment. 5% is my quietest.

I agree, never used the 5%, 10 is by far my most popular colour, I dont think there is that much difference between the 10 and 12 really, In my opinion the 12 is just deeper.... I'd say if you can take a 10 you probably can take the 12 too, not for caspers though!!! :green:

Some excellent comments on this thread which should be helpfull to a lot of Geeks.

From our outgoing supplies (I.E a global view ) we are finding
8% is by far the most popular % and accounts for probably 40% of liquid consumption,

followed by 10% ,

5% is starting to creep up ( we have noticed that more and more salon operators are taking this)

12% which is way down on the list(however in certain areas this is one of the better selling %..particularly in the traditional sunbed hotspots of Manchester/Yorkshire)

The uptake of Essence of summer has been extreemly encouraging and grows on a dail basis...however is not for everyone due to the minimal initial colour guide..those that do take it seem to be completly hooked so I guess its either you love it or hate it solution.

Of course the % split does vary from time to time...in the winter months there is a lean towards the lighter % however summer months we find that normal 8% users will go to a 10% and then revert back in the winter.

Hopefully this info is of some help
