Hi, I need to buy a laptop for my 13 year old son for Christmas....well he's one of 3 children so budget is quite important!!! Ideally we'd like to get something for around 300 pounds.......I've been looking on argos (as I can put it on BNPL) and seen a couple which seem ok.....but I'm no expert. He'll be using it mainly for schoolwork, he's recently been identified as dyslexic so school are going to load some software on there for him. I've ruled out a netbook as I think he would prefer to have a dvd drive on it.
Here are a couple that we're looking at, (that are in stock!!) It looks like the fujitsu is the best spec, are fujitsu a good brand?

I would welcome any advice.

Buy Compaq Presario CQ60 Laptop. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

Buy Toshiba L450-136 Windows 7 15.6in Laptop. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

Thank you, Lou xx

Hi I would go with the toshiba, it has an higher processor and is 3 gb which is good for a laptop so it will be able to open more projects intead of having to shut down programes to open another one iykwim it already has windows 7 on it another bonus windows 7 is a lot faster than vista so no annoying popups. :)

The Fujitsu looks good also i would say a toss up between them 2 but processor speed is a bit slower but not a lot to notice will he be using it for games ??

Hi Hun,

I'm not that hands on this gadget but my bf, he's a programmer.

He recommend you to choose between Fujitsu and Toshiba because...

Compaq seem to have a problem with the heat while you're using because processor is AMD.

The other 2 option is ok but if he were you, he would like the Fujitsu one because among those three laptops, the Fujitsu's procesor seem to be the best offer for speed.

He advice you and your son to go and choose the quality of screen that you like as well as the appearance outside.

BTW, you can be sure that your son won't be able to play any computer game on any of these laptop because those quality of video cards are not suitable for... ^ ^

PS... It is true that 2.2GHz is higher than 1.8GHz but this is just a theoretically number. Core 2 Duo is able to work more stable and efficiency.

Hiya Missed it was a core 2 duo thought it was a single core like the other 2 lol , I would go with the fujitsu one as well but has been said wont be able to play some of these hi tech games. I hope he likes it

we have just brought my boys netbooks as not a lot of money in the pot they have built in webcams petite and portable.
they cost £194 from a reputable electronic company on ebay who have 100% feedback with next day delivery
they are brand new and guarenteed for a year

Thanks for your input everyone.....I ordered the fujitsu one, it arrived yesterday.

I have a netbook myself and love it.....but I think a full size one with a disk drive is better for him as school are going to be providing him with some specialist software to use.....plus he'll be able to watch DVDs on it!!!

Thanks again, Lou xx

I've a Fujitsu, and it's been working well for 4 years, touch wood. I love it, it's notebook sized, but a powerful machine (well it was at the time! LOL)

Fujitsu is a good brand but I prefer you to buy Apple mac this brand is the best
