i had a client thursday who i did a tip and gel overlay with pink glitter.i used star nails clear performance tips which have no well but i did blend them so they werent to bulky.she txt me last night saying that some of the tips had broke off underneath the gel but the gel had stayed on so they were like sculpted nails.
does anyone know why this would happen as ive never had this problem before.
i had to remove the nails and start again because even though the nail was still intact the had a slight cloudy spot underneath the gel from the tips breaking and did it free of charge so i hope it doesnt happen to anymore as i dont want to end up having to replace them all.
please help.xx

Hiyah
Did you get any sanitiser under the tips? as this causes the cracking under the tip, I have had this happen to me before.

I tend o dry wipe the tips when using clear and my own problem has stopped

thanks sue, maybe it was this is i dont usually use clear tips i use natural tips and i have never had this problem before.the part of the tips that hang over the edge of the finger had basicly broke off so they were as if i had sculpted them if that makes sense?
does this ever happen when using natural tips or is it just with clear ones.? thanks again.xx

A couple of things come to mind. If she is a new client and you are not familiar with how enhancements behave on her, then it may be that she is too hard on them and banging them around. Therefore they could be breaking under stress. Is she really following aftercare advice?

Are you certain the tips were the correct width and correct curve to fit her natural nails? eg. flat tip on curvy nail will cause stress to the tip.

Sanitizer and chemical tip blender can also cause tips to crack.

You do need to check her enhancements and evaluate for yourself before deciding on a course of action. If there is pocket lifting then she is a sitting duck for greenies.

thanks for your reply.
i did cheack and make sure that the tips did fit her nails as she does have quite flat nails.
i did her nails a few years ago which she had acrylics and she broke some by trying to open presents so i know she can be quite hard on her nails.
and thats what i thought to about the greenies as thats why i replaced the other ones.its just that if they are ok and havent got any pocket lifting it seems a waste to replace them all,but as you said i need to see them first before i make a desicion.xx
i'll definately be throwing them tips out though!

i dont normally use clear tips so i am by no means an expert but in the past i found when i had filed them in any way they would crack so maybe thats the problem...it seemed to be my problem anyways:irked:

Tracey, Did you apply a layer of base or clear gel to the entire tip prior to your glitter gel application? Any time you apply glitter you should always apply a layer of gel for the base and give a full cure to be sure your gel will bond, you want to embed the glitter therefore it needs to be sandwiched in.

Also, what was your glitter/gel ratio? If you mix too much glitter it will overpower the gel and you will get service breakdown.

She didnt use nail varnish remove with acetone in it did she? Sure fire way to crack the tips, iv done it to myself lots of times when I didnt use acetone free remover.

hi thanks for all your replies.
i think the mostly likely cause was the sanitiser as i have never used these tips before so they were the only thing that was new to me.
i did apply a base layer first and then the glitter.i then build the apex and the rest of the nail afterwards so i know it wasnt this.ive used glitter plenty of times before so im sure it wasnt my mix ratio as ive never had this problem before and i didnt use nail varnish remover.thats why i think it must have been the sanitiser.
i was gutted as i ended up replacing the rest if her nails even though they were fine and didnt have no pocket lifting so it was just to show her that i was doing something about them and to keep my reputation.
ive definately learned from this and i wont be using the tips again.
they should say if this usually happens with clear tips when you use sanitiser.xx
