I have a problem with nail tips spliting, its always been the coloured tips and white that are spliting never the natural or clear.
i apply the the tip cut the tips using tip slicer, file and shape the nail, on inspection no split vissible, finish the application of gel etc inspect nail tips and notice the splits or maybe a couple of days after they appear. I just threww out a heap of coloured and white tips because i thought it was the nails, and ordered some light elegance french tips and the same thing i have tried everything making sure i cap the free edge, thicker gel, not buff the top of the tip, i had my tip slicers sharpened and still the same thing, i am baffled dont know whats going on...

Where on the tip are the splits occurring?

Is it where they're adhered to the natural nail or at the free edge?

Is it on your nails or on your clients?

When I started out my tips spilt every time, it was a mixture of using a blender (learnt that lesson the hard way that using a file is the only way), cheap products and the way i was trimming them down!!

Could be one of those?

they are splitting straight up the middle of the tip from the free edge up, and they are on my nails and my clients nails, and i dont use a tip blender!!! it is happening on every set of coloured nails i do, i thought it was from cheap nails that why i brought more expensive ones, but its still happening so it has to be something i am doing...

Are you getting contact with an acetone based product on the tips? That will cause tips to split.

only dehydrate...i just cant figure out why its the coloured tips and not with the natural tips or clear when i do exactly the same thing...

only thing that should go on the tips is the gel, any dehydrator or similar, etc will cause brittleness (for lack of a better word) to the tip, causing cracking.

I did a set of of clear tips today on a friend, and the same thing, little finger tip split, i didnt put anything on the tip other than the gel, this is realy annoying...someone plaese help......

I've talked to my tutor about this problem recently and except of what have been alredy said I can add that shape(tipe) of tips can be a reason... I mean the nails are different; some people have flat nails, some more curved... the same with tips... so if you'll try to stick tips with dramatic c-curve to a flat nail it can cause a splitting in the middle of the tip...
