To all you lovely (and handsome) skin geeks,

After getting my nail enhancement (and natural nail) business up and running, (will be a couple of months, perhaps a few) I would definitely like to introduce more services. What I'm trying to find out is whether I should go with tanning or waxing. My initial thoughts are that waxing might be more profitable as a start, which would then give me the funds to start offering tanning; or possibly the other way around. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would definitely do tanning then waxing.

Both offer a good revenue income stream into any beauty business.

That said to train, get qualified and become competent is far easier, cheaper and quicker for spray tanning...get that off the ground and get a customer base built...using the generated profits from this then invest in training to become a waxer makes good sense.

HTH

I'd do both if you can. I only do waxing and that's always your bread and butter. However, I hear lots of success stories from the therapists that train with me who are making a great living from spray tanning. xx

I want to train with you!!! Any courses close to Manchester? :D

Thanks for the great advice! Now onto research spray tanning companies lol.

It depends on where you are. In my area waxing is far bigger than tanning so if I was you I would research your own area and then decide. :D

In my area, waxing is more profitable too, my tanning is seasonal, but waxing is steady all year.hth.

I have a full time day job. Beauty isn't my main income so my experiance might be different from everyone else.

When ever I tell people I do mobile beauty treatments the first thing they ask is do I do waxing.

I do eyelash extensions, spray tan, minx and soon Shellac. I think these are seen as luxuries where as waxing is seen as an essential.

I think it also depends where you are and what type of clients you have. I'm just setting up in a personal trainig studio so these clients will treat themselves to luxuries possibly more often.

My sister has regular waxing and threading and doesn't treat herself to luxuries much. She said most other mums she meets at the school gates and the neighbours will be the same as her.

As I was laying in bed thinking about this last night, I decided to do a bit of marketing research when I dropped my daughter off at school today. Turns out the vast majority of people in my area are more interested in waxing, and even more asked me if I would be doing male waxing because they wanted to book their partners in! LOL! The plot thickens...
