There is a competition at the college I attend coming up soon,
The competition is a total look, Mainly make up and hair, but the costume is important and any jewellry and nail / body art too would come in as a bonus.

I think we will only have a certain time to do the total look in, maybe 1 hour I dont know yet!

So any ideas for anything will help please

Thanks in advance

Thats the kind of dress I would assosiate with bollywood - the jewellery; ring with chain attaching to wrist, bangles, lots of sparkly stuff and gold.

Also the jewels above the eyebrow...

When I think of bollywood I also think of belly dancers - I don't know why.

Oooh also henna on the hands :)

Yeah I have downloaded loads of piccys too, but mainly its the hair? most just have it straight but thats not giving me a chance to be very creative? I think of belly dancers too, I have been looking on ebay for a costume, my neice is my model (hopefully) shes not worried about showing her belly but doesnt want her legs showing, I would be the other way around:lol:

i think the main thing with their hair is straight, shiny. you can be creative with some gold in their hair like UKRED said. do you have to show the model at the comp or is it a photo? to cpature the shine of the hair will show your work on the hair if its a photo........

is this for level 3???? ooh let us know how you get on...and dont forget the photo's

Oh wow, that sounds well fab Ruth! Yep, definitely go for the henna; if you only have a short amount of time to do the comp you may want to go for a similar colour body paint - as you really need to do the henna a couple of days before for it to look its best. I've also seen special "tattoo pens" available in henna-type colour that would probably work really well and may even be quicker and easier than body paint for this too...

firemouse I love that picture, thanks:lol:

it is a comp open to all the hair and beauty students at college (i think!) so thats level 1,2, and 3. I couls be wrong it may just be for us level 2, but its for hair and beauty students, as I have been a hairdresser for 20 years and done beauty too I feel quite confident about it, ans am really looking forward to it, my friend at college is Asian and is very 'up' with all this bollywood stuff hena etc...

We havent had a date yet for the comp, just been told about it, but i Like to be prepared and know what I'm going to do:) its for the actual person to model in front of the judges, not photographs.

I will keep you all posted when I know more but please keep the ideas coming, its much appreciated.

Ruth I like the idea of the henna coloured tattooo pens etc... I will have a look into that...

I know a big part of the right look is heavy eye make-up and long false lashes,
you can buy transfer tattoos that look like henna designs, i have some i got from one of the shows hth

Cool, I think they were selling the tattoo pens at a beauty show at Olympia about 7 years ago (I was helping someone out with body art for a nail comp back then) - will have to do a search and see if I can find what brand it was. Haven't used them myself though - probably the best thing to do is to try them well in advance of the comp and see if they give the effect you want.

I think you could pile the hair up in an elaborate style and then put the veil and chains on.
