HI GEEKS, HOPE YOU ARE ALL WELL AND GETTING PLENTY OF BUSINESS.I WANTED SOME ADVICE AS I HAVE JUST SET UP IN A RENTED ROOM. MY QUERY IS; IN COLLEGE WE USED CELLULAR BLANKET WITH SINGLE SHEET AND A SMALL TOWEL TO GO UNDER THE INDIVIDUAL LIMB YOU WERE MASSAGING (SO NOT TO CONTAMINATE THE BLANKET) THE SALON WHERE I WORKED (BEFORE I WAS MADE REDUNDANT) USED TOWELS. fOR ONE PERSON THOUGH THIS WOULD CONSIST OF A LARGE ONE TO LIE ON, A SMALLER ONE FOR TOP OF BED AND A LARGE TO COVER PLUS A SPARE CHEST TOWEL IF NEEDED. AS IM NEW AND HAVE NO CONSTANT INCOME I CANT AFFORD TO BUY LOTS OF TOWELS OR HAVE A LAUNDRY SERVICE AND DONT THINK I WOULD BEABLE TO WASH AND DRY THEM ALL OF A NIGHT TIME?? I DID A BACK MASSAGE TODAY THO AND IT USES ONE SHEET JUST FOR THAT WHEREAS IF I HAD TOWELS I COULD PUT ROLL DOWN OR TURN IT OVER. WHAT DO YOU USE AND HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO CLEAN THEM ETC. ALSO WHAT TEMP AND POWDER DO YOU USE IF YOU WASH THEM YOURSELF? APOLOGIES IF IT SOUNDS A BASIC QUESTION BUT GOOD TO HEAR FROM OTHERS. MANY THANKS X

Hi I use a couch cover with couch roll for the client to lie on, and use 2 large towels to cover the client (1 for the leg end, 1 for the body) any rolled towels I use for bolsters are also covered in couch roll. I have a lady who collects my laundry, but if doing it yourself any powder is fine but the ideal temp to kill any bacteria is 60 degrees. I like to tumble dry all my towels because it gives that nice fluffy feel. But yes you do get through plenty when your busy. hth & good luck.

You really need to have fresh, clean towels for each client - definately no turning them over!

For massage I would avoid paper too as it's not very comfortable for the client. You want to make them feel warm, secure and comfortable. that means new towels and blankets for every client. For a full body massage I use 4 large towels per client!

This really is one area where you can't afford to skimp I'm afraid.

thanks for the info. in the last salon i worked in ' a prestigious one' according to the marketing, they used to turn them over to use the other side or put roll down. i always changed them completely before this. even with couch roll they still may touch the towels so its not worth the risk. how did you work out how many and what size to order then to start? as dependant on treatment you need a variety?

Oooh, glad you turned the Caps Lock off - makes it quite hard to read. :)

For a massage I use the following towels:

  • Two Jumbo Bath Sheets (100cm x 200cm)
  • One hand towel for chest if needed
  • Disposable face cradle cover
And then that's it. Nice and simple. You really do need to be changing the towels for each client, and using a towels like this makes it a lot more comfortable for the client - you don't need to keep moving them around.

Well work out how many treatments you do each day, how many towels you need for each treatment and then times by 2, at least!

Take them home at the end of each day to launder and tumble dry, the cost of which is tax deductable.

Hi hun, if you go to somewhere like primark you can get a load of towels at a really good price, I think if you invest in these now then you will make your money back as clients will love you and keep coming back!
If you have any spare pennies left you could also get a heat blanket from argos, to put under a towel under your client to really ensure they are warm and snug in winter.
There is nothing i hate more when I get a massage( once in a blue moon lol) than being cold.xx

I think their insights are quite efficient to handle your queries. So I'll tell you to move on the next step.

Please check on your financial capacity, work on it or maybe try to pay a visit to a near mall or consolable market place and try to see for these things you need. A live sight of such new and much desired things should trigger your inert creativity. :D Good Luck~!

thanks eveyone, just good to hear what others do. and you beat me to it re: the blanket on the case today. In old salon they used to have some fancy one(£150) but think argos or similar will have to be my baby for now:) thanks again everyone.
