Hi all. I am wanting a bit of advice. I have been doing spray tans for a while now using my old trusty compressor. I can usually get about 4-5 tans out of it if I am lucky before it cuts out. I have done a few spray tan parties but not for a while now. I used to use coco bay (millenium) but I am looking at getting a new hvlp machine. what i would like to know is how hard will it be transitioning from an airbrush to hvlp machine? I am self taught with my compressor and I am hoping I will be able to do the same with hvlp. I would like to re-establish the spray tanning business again. The reason I chose coco bay was that it did give a lovely colour.

What is the popular brand at the moment to use? I have been looking at the maximist 5800. how many tans would this give before cutting out? (not the lite one). how much colour does the hvlp use compared to the airbrush? Would be grateful for any advice you can give.

Hi, I have never used airbrush so can't comment on any comparison, but as far as I can tell the HVLP 5008 can go all day without cutting out. It is a true workhorse xxx

Compressors vary in how they deliver air .. either continuously with no holding capacity (in which case they cut out when they get too hot)... or some have holding tanks which never cut out but do need to refill with occasionally which only takes seconds and which run as long as you need them to. Some have larger air tanks than others. Of course the latter is more expensive than the former. It shouldn't take you any time to love the continuous action of a better quality compressor.

we did a training/demo session the other day in staffordshire and did 22 tans in one go with a maximist 5008 ..our demo machine is 20 months old and has been totally abused it should have blown up by now.. but it keeps going :D:D
if you can spray with a compressor then you can spray with hvlp its the same principle you should be getting between 20 and 25 tans to the litre with a 5008 HTH

thanks for your replies.

Would I use the same technique? with the airbrush I use circular motions whereas the demos i have seen with hvlp are up and down. Is this an easy thing to transition to? Can I get insurance without the training certificate? I have looked around and most training companies tend to be in the north west or scotland. I was looking at buying the LA tan package which includes the hvlp, tent and 3 litres solution. Their training is £50 plus VAT which seems to be the cheapest I have seen but it is located in Manchester.

we have a course running in middlesbourgh TS1 on 26th of this month :D

Hi Steve. just a few questions
1. how much is the course.
2. how long does it last.
3. do i have to bring my own model (s) with me.
4. do i have to provide my own machine and solution?
