When you say you have seen acrylics done,am i right in assuming you mean liquid and powder as opposed to gel,as you have no knowlege of a lamp ?

Gel will not "set " without curing under the lamp.

Oh and beleive me hun,it's not as easy as it looks,x

Hope this helps xxx

Hi and welcome to the site...
you most definitely do need a UV lamp to cure UV gel, when you're building the shape to the enhancement it's vital to cure it quickly so the nail holds its shape otherwise the gel will run into the sidewalls and/or pool on the nail, you'd end up with a very unattractive shaped nail if you tried curing without a UV lamp.

this article should be of interest to you... Choosing a UV Lamp for your Gel System.

have you considered going on a course to train in nails so you can add it to your treatment menu?

What make is the kit - most gels will not work without the rexcommended UV lamp to cure the gel.

I recommend that you do get professional training and not to just buy these things of e-bay. So many things can go wrong if you dont, even your reputation and your clients health - and this can only add to giving professional technicians a bad reputation if you go ahead without the proper training!

I am sure many fellow geeks will agree on this so please take this advice very seriously. If you need any help on where to train then there is loads of advice on here - just search the threads!

With you being a beauty therapist I can`t believe you want to just buy stuff from ebay and teach yourself, you`re just opening up a can of worms here by doing this and its really unprofessional.
You need the appropriate lamp for the gel system you are using although if gels are left with the lids off they will cure in sunlight eventually, some quicker than others but without a lamp you cannot estimate how long it will take you to perform the treatment.
If you insist on training yourself I personally think it will put you off doing nail treatments as you will encounter too many problems you won`t know how to deal with, do yourself a favour and get proper training somewhere, that way you will eliminate so many problems

i am aware of the importance of proper training , everyhing i carry out on clients is only wot i am fully competent in and insured for, i bought thekit off ebay simply to practice on my own thumb nail, as my left thumb lets my hands down, my own nails grow lovely n strong etc but this thumb nail was hanging off when i trapped it in a door&my thumb was sewn back togther-leaving my thumb nail bumpy, growing all over the place etc so had a nail put on couple wks back&just decided on the kit to save money by doin just my thumb myself, i am looking to go onto training for artificial nails defo but just not at the min. the make of the kit is 'tina' professional u gel kit from hong kong!! prob very rubbish anyway!! thanku all so much 4 yr help, lovin this site as u r all very quick to reply&very helpful!!! x

Thanks for explaining sarah - perhaps if you had done this at the beginning you may have not had us jumping dowon your throat - so i apologise. Try one of the quick coarses that are normally availalbe from your hair stuff suppliers and this may give you some help to start off with! We dont tend to rate the stuff you can buy from e-bay very well on here.

If you dont want to use a UV lamp then why not try an acrylic L&P systen instead. That way you can soak your work off if you need tro re-work it.

Gel (requires uv lamp)and liquid and powder (known to the general public as acrylic) are the most commonly used systems. There is also fabric/silk.If you do search you will get loads of info i helping ou decide wich system to train in initially

Do you have any idea where you might carry out your training ?
